Visual Studio Team System Team System Builds and dropping an MSI
Hi, I just started using Team System this week, and I've been able to muddle along fairly well, but I've just discovered something that to me is a real show stopper. And based on the searches that I have done in Google and in these forums, I'm beginning to think there is something fundamental I missing based on the small number of responses to this problem. My problem is that the team system build does not build the Setup projects. I understand that this is because MSBuild does not support them, but I am flabbergasted by this fact. What use is a build system that does not create the fundamental deployment deliverable Obv ...Show All
Visual C++ Spaces instead of tabs in auto-generated code for MFC projects
Does anyone know whether it is possible to let VS use spaces instead of tabs when generating code for MFC applications I changed the 'Tab' settings under Tools/Options/Text Editor/All Languages/Tabs to insert spaces but, as expected, that only affects the editor itself, not the code generator. As I want to use an external editor, I would prefer 3 spaces instead of tabs being used in the auto-generated code. Regards, Siggy Thats AFAIK not possible. The autogenerated code is placed in templates in the wizard. The code is taken as it is and just a view parts are replaced. ...Show All
SQL Server SSIS fixed width file
I am attempting to import a fixed width file into a SS2005 table and am having problems when importing a date that has no value in it. The table will allow nulls. The date is in dd/mm/yyyy foramt and when there is no date then there are 10 spaces. When transforming the data I TRIM the data down using a derive transform script so all there is, is an empty string. When the file attempts to load I get the following message: [OLE DB Destination [2238]] Error: There was an error with input column "paid_date" (2306) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (2251). The column status returned was: "The value could not be co ...Show All

Any thoughts from experts Thanks Basav Jonas Beckeman wrote: This is troublesome news, if it's true. Please, MS, shed some light on this. It would seriously affect my commitment to WPF if it's not pre-installed on Vista. SQL Server Step by step for Indirect configuration
Is there a good step by step guide to setting up an indirect configuration I've followed the steps in Kirk Haselden's 'Keep your packages in the dark' article 3 or 4 times this afternoon and nothing seems to work. I cannot even get the XML configuration file to work by accessing it directly. I'm using the wizard to create the file. Just wondering if there was something else out there.... Thanks in advance for any help. MarkA No step-by-step guide exists so here's one: 1. Create a direct configuration 2. Visual Studio VS.NET 2005 Beta 2 Team Suite Edition fails half way through.
I finished downloading the full Vs.net 2005 Beta2 team system files, extracted them and then attempted to install them on my Development Laptop. It turns out, I just re-built my laptop with a clean installation of Windows XP SP2, and MS OFFiCE 2003. There are a few more apps, but the bottom line is that the laptop is clean. I ran the Installation, and it installed the .NET framework 2.0, and then the MSXML 6.0 Parser. It got to the VS.NET installation, and starts copying files ok. About 3/4 of the way through the progress bar, it throws a generic failure record, and rolls back the installation. Is anyone else running into this Is there ...Show All
