Visual Basic serialport control performance
hi, I'm writing a program that recieves data from an embedded device and am having trouble with performance. I have established a connection at 115200bps yet my program seems to obtain an average transfer rate of only 1.1 kilobytes a second. My program currently requests a block of data, then when data is recieved, requests another block, then when data recieves, requests again etc. This is half duplex communication and I'm wondering how I can do full duplex communication I can see I would need 2 threads (one send, one recieve) but the serialport control is on the UI form and cross thread actions are illegal. :S If anyone cou ...Show All
Visual C++ Rebuild using shared precompiled headers doesn't work
To combat a long build time, I consolidated common headers across 20+ projects into a single precompiled header, to be shared. The pch file is generated from a separate project (pch.vcproj with stdafx.cpp/h), and it works with clean builds and incremental builds (from editing one of the files belonging to the 20+ projects), but I get compile errors when I choose Rebuild. Before presuming a bug, I'd like to ask the forum for help. There are several things that have to be done to get this to work, and unfortunately, I'll have to reveal them to legitimize asking for help. For sake of generality, lets say one of th ...Show All

I create a new device application and try to run in in emulator.. the emulator starts just fine, but it won't connect to it! At all! The error is "Connection failed. The system cannot find the path specified." Visual Studio Deploying CR IX with Windows Forms Apps
I needed to create numerous reports and started with the CR IDE within VS 2003. The UI is awful, so I purchased CR IX full version to get a decent UI to work with. The intention is to deploy the CR viewer and rpt files with the app and push data into the reports via ADO.NET dataset. All of this works fine. But when I build a deployment project, CR insists a merge module be used and it tops out at 63 MB. The merge module contains lots of *** thet I do not want to install. The merge module itself has user selectable components that will be installed, but from the 63 MB merge module which has to be deployed to the end ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System Findbugs
Has anyone done a comparison of FxCop against the java equivalent FindBugs It looks like FindBugs has some interesting tests for things like infinite recursion as an example. Nick As far as I'm aware, we've never actually done a comparision between the two. After looking through the list of issues though, there are quite a lot that are similar to what we already do, a few that are really only applicable to Java and few that we should consider doing. Are there any particular rules that, besides the infinite recursion warning, you would like to see ...Show All
Visual Studio Express Editions Create service ?
Hi, I know that this vs edition has some limitations. I gues that I can create service (using platform sdk) by hand, but maybe there is some wizard which could make some template( like win32 project ) to ease the task I already know that win32 project wizard is not on by default, and after adding it, is accesible only by choosing 'console application'. thanks Vilius As you mentioned I don't believe there is one in this Edition. Others might help if they created ones. Thanks, Ayman Shoukry VC++ Team ...Show All
Visual Studio Team System Recommend moving to team system now?
We have a project that is already based on VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005, presently we're using VSS although it is letting us down with some issues. We're looking into both Team Foundation Server and other products to remedy the situation but wanted to get some opinions on TFS from those users outside of Microsoft that are presently using it today Please let me know what you think of using TFS in a team environment and how it is working out for you with the basic source control operations that we'll all be using daily. SQL Server Database Constaint Violation Error in SQL for Great Plains
Hi there. We're doing a save on a MS Great Plains with SQL Server screen and get the following error: "A save operation on table 'WS_Time_Sheet_TRX_WORK' failed because a database constraint was violated." If I hit More Info it says: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]INSERT statement conflicted with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_WS10702_UPR00100'. The conflict occurred in database 'NSP', table 'U00100PR', column 'EMPLOYID'. I know these messages probably make perfect sense to you guys, but I'm a newbie. Can you point me in the right direction My thinking is that maybe I should force the foreign key constrain ...Show All
Visual Studio Tools for Office How to create an extended worksheet from an external application (non-VSTO excel project)?
Hi, Here's the setup: I have an excel add-in application and I want to leverage the new binding capabilities of the extended Worksheet hostItem. I cannot create an extended worksheet using CreateViewForWorksheet() described in http://blogs.officezealot.com/maarten/archive/2005/09/12/7979.aspx and in Eric Lippert's new book, since I don't have the 'ThisWorkbook' to start with (and get the RunTimeCallback reference). Anyone hit the same issue (trying to marry the hostitems/hostcontrols to an Excel-addin project or any other), or does one always have to start with a Excel Workbook/Template VSTO template project Appreciate any opinion : ...Show All
