SQL Server Machine name and 'localhost' work, but local and . don't
SQL Server 2005 express... when i'm trying to connect through SQL Express Manager, i can connect just fine if i use 'localhost\sqlexpress', or [machinename]\sqlexpress, but if i use local\sqlexpress or .\sqlexpress, it times out. i've recently had trouble connecting through VBExpress as well, and i'm wondering if it's because it always uses .\sqlexpress to connect... Anyone know why these 2 seemingly valid options don't work anymore that's what i thought, but only the third of those three worked. now that i've deleted the aliases, they all work again. how do the aliases work ...Show All

Visual Studio Team System Error Spawning fxcopcmd.exe
I'm trying to determine why VBA for Excel won't take my component that I wrote with C++/CLI. I decided to give fxcop a try by enabling it in my project properties -> code analysis. I get this right off the bat: Performing static analysis... Project : error PRJ0003 : Error spawning 'FxCopCmd.exe'. I verified that this file exists in: e:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Team Tools\Static Analysis Tools\FxCop The Event Viewer doesn't report anything related to this. So I'm stumped. Thanks, Brian I am not sure why FxCop is unable to launch, but FxCop is used for managed code. For nati ...Show All
Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. 'culture demo from GDC2006
@ the Microsoft booth last week, GDC 2006, a small cellular automata game called 'culture was on display. It was described as "a visually stimulating 3D floral simulation of cellular automata." This was apparently a promotional project to show how fast a C++ programmer could learn C# and the XNA framework and produce something visually interesting. I found this small XNA application to be a beautiful interactive toy, and would enjoy having access to it, either in binary or source form. Can anyone @ Microsoft (or, say, the author of 'culture) say whether this will become available at some point Graham ...Show All

Visual Studio Team System New Certifications Stemming from Visual Studio 2005 Team System
I predict that there will be a new line of Microsoft Certifications stemming from Visual Studio 2005 Team System. I would make them as follows: MCTA = Microsoft Certified Team Architect MCTD = Microsoft Certified Team Developer MCTT = Microsoft Certified Team Tester MCPM = Microsoft Certified Project Manager WHat do you think of that prediction Hi Adam, I think MCTT = Microsoft Certified Team Tester certification should be most useful to manual tester and automation tester , Who are all involved VSTS in their respective project. Microsoft ISV Community Center Forums paste values from multiple sheets to another sheet
Good day, I am brand new to VBA for Excel.I have a workbook with a bunch of different sheets. I have checkbox buttons on one page that will unhide the desired sheets. What I'm having trouble with is getting the code to work that will allow me to: 1) Search specific sheets (most of them - all but 4) for the last row in columns L through O. 2) paste the values in that range to another sheet. 3) on the destination sheet I'd like the values from the copied sheets to be in the range F9:I9 for the first, and increment a row each time - so the next will be on F10:I10 and so on. I have tried a bunch of variations but cannot quite g ...Show All
Smart Device Development Pocket PC/Webservices: Unable to connect to the remote server
I have developed a Pocket PC 2003 app in Visual Studio .NET and am getting an unusual problem i can't get to the bottom of. My VB.NET Pocket PC App tries to call a simple web method on my webservice from the device using the webserver's IP or Machine name and receives the error " Unable to connect to the remote server". .NET Development J# doesn't support 64 bit?
I'm getting my first 64-bit machine next week, so I thought I'd better start getting up to speed about 64 bit. I have a solution that has C# applications (WinForms and class libraries), as well as some J# class libraries. As long as the solution only contains C# projects, the platform configuration manager (that dropdown in the toolbar) says "All CPU", meaning it will generate platform-agnostic MSIL. But as soon as you add a J# project, it says "Mixed Platforms" and also adds "x86". Doesn't J# support 64-bit I thought it also produces MSIL ! Does this mean all my applications have to run in x86 Or is .NET smart enough to compile the C# ...Show All

Hi, I would like to compare current YTD (2005) with 2004 YTD, how do I do that using MDX ParaLLELPERIOD (Year) and PERIODSTODATE(Year) I am not an MDX expert, but I believe something like this should resolve it.
