SQL Server Report Builder - A filter is required
Using Report Builder, I am querying a table that has: 85,000 rows 5 columns The report will run with only 4 of the columns, but when I add the 5th (data type is nvarchar(1024)), I get an error message that says: Cannot run this report. A filter must be specified. When I add a filter on that 5th column, it will run. Does anyone know if there is a record limit in Report Builder Is there some sort of governor that I can modify Thanks in advance! I think I figured this out. The entity in my model had a property called "InstanceSelection" with the value of "MandatoryFilter." I cannot completely explain what this ...Show All
Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) Knowntypes vs IExtensible
Hi I created a datacontract class with 20-30 fields and tried transferring it from a client to a service with a router in-between (which just receives the call and re-transmits it) using two methods: 1) Casting it to a base class (having a single ID field), with the base class connected to it through a known type attribute. 2) Casting it to a base class (having a single ID field) which implements the IExtensibleObject interface without a knowntype. I expected the second implementation to perform better, assuming I'm saving serialization/de-serialization along the way, but the first implementation performed much better! I ma ...Show All
Visual Studio Express Editions Visual C++ Express Beta 2 & ODBC
Hi I am wanting to use an ODBC connection to play with. The connection exists and works as I can suck data into Excel using it. My suspicion is that the ODBC stuff in Beta 2 is incomplete... I have a very simple working application - nothing more than a form, an empty treeview (which is what I want to populate!) and an 'Exit' button. I have added these lines: using namespace System::Data; using namespace System::Data::Odbc; OdbcConnection^ tm422 = gcnew OdbcConnection(); And now when I compile I get a pile of errors : ------ Build started: Project: MyTreeView, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ Compiling... SQL Server Ole DB Multi value named parameters problem.
I'm trying to use cascading report parameters using the mult-value select option. The first parameter is used as input for second parameter. The first dataset called Employee, select employeeid from humanresources.employee Using SQL Server you can use multi named parameters to create your second dataset. For example, select employeeid, loginid from humanresources.employee where employeeid in (@Employee) However, I'm sadly not using sql server. I'm trying to do the same thing using an OleDB (non SQL Server) interface which ...Show All
Windows Forms TabControl and ToolStrips:strange behaviour ?
got a form with a tabcontrol on it. On each tappage a ToolstripContainer and some Toolstrips in int. If I see Tabpage 1 in the designer and run...then I get Toolstrips visible on Tabpage 1. Not on ex.TabPage2. if I see Tabpage2 in the designer and run...then I get Toolstrips visible on TabPage 2. No on ex. TabPage1. Is this meant to be or am I missing something Thx JMW You are welcome to have the last word on this, here's mine. When we set out to build toolstrips, we decided that we didn't know 100% of the cases where/when/how folks were going to use them. This is a major reason why we decided to ...Show All
Visual C++ STL binary search - C2784 in debug only?
I'm porting a Visual C++ 6 project to Visual Studio 2005 and ran into something I don't understand with STL. Below code compiled and worked for debug and release modes in VC6, compiles and works in release mode for VS2005, but won't compile in debug mode under VS2005. The call to lower_bound isn't identifying the second operator < for some reason. -- Market.h---------- #ifndef __MARKET_H__ #define __MARKET_H__ #include <vector> #include <algorithm> class CMarket { CMarket () {}; ~CMarket () {}; // Individual quote class Quote { public : Quote() {}; ~Quote() {}; // For STL sort by date in ...Show All

The following properties are assigned to the graphic object before draw method is called: g.SmoothingMode = Drawing2D.SmoothingMode.HighQuality g.CompositingMode = Drawing2D.CompositingMode.SourceOver g.CompositingQuality = Drawing2D.CompositingQuality.Hi ...Show All
Game Technologies: DirectX, XNA, XACT, etc. need help using Type 1 fonts with DirectX
Hi, My problem is that apparently DirectX (Font.DrawText method) can't work correctly with Type 1 fonts. It creates Font object (which is cool already 'cause the System.Drawing won't do even that) and displays characters using it but they're just not the characters from the string. After a reasearch on fonts I found out that the characters in the Type 1 font can be identified in 3 ways. Either by their names like 'space' and stuff which there is no way to use here, by their index (that is position of the PostScript subroutine in the font program) or by their unicode value association. They also can be mapped to different character valu ...Show All

Visual Studio Licensing & pricing
I thought I should start a thread on licensing and pricing where we can give some feedback to MS on the type of scenarios we intend to implement and how various licensing & pricing schemes would interact with that. As I see it there are two separate questions here: 1) What license is required to author a DSL 2) What license is required to use a DSL For 1) I guess the main question is which edition of Visual Studio will be required, and whether one will need to join the VSIP program in order to author and distribute a DSL widely. For 2) a lot more questions come to mind: a) Which version of Visual Studio will be able to host a DSL b ...Show All
