.NET Development Connecting problem
Hi. I am having problems with the TCPClient Class in .NET (1.1) If i connect to the server app from either mobile device or the Windows Client application, it of course connects successfully assuming the server is up and running. However, if i quit/stop the service of the server app and try to connect from the client application - you would expect for it not to work. However, it does! It seems to connect but the problem starts when you send messages to the connection destination (when the destination app is closed/service has been stopped) When sending the data to the Server (when its offline) it will of course throw an exception wh ...Show All

Visual Studio Team System TF30321: The name you typed is already used for another team project
I had a project fail part way through creation (sharepoint timed out on creation for some reason) and it also failed to "back out" of creation properly. Now when I try to create a project with that same name I get error TF30321 "TF30321: The name you typeed is already used for another team project on the Team Foundation Server. Type a unique name for the new team project." I would have thought this was a big problem, but I had already successfully created a project and have since created another project so it seems to be some intermittent issue or timing problem. I'll post up on the failure separately. What I'm more c ...Show All
Windows Forms Event not displayed in Designer Property grid
I am building a composite control. I have added an event like this: public event EventHandler DoubleTextValueChanged; I am able to Raise the event, and users of my control are able to receive notifications of the event if they have added their handler for the event. But my DoubleTextValueChanged event does NOT show up in the Designer Property grid. I would like my users to be able to click on the event name in the Designer Property grid and get an event handler stub generated. Is there some magic I must perform to make my event appear in the Designer Property grid along with the other 'built in' events Than ...Show All
Software Development for Windows Vista Registry Access in Managed Form Application
Hi, I'm developing a C# .Net 2.0 application that requires read/write access to the registry. I'm using the following code: using Microsoft.Win32; ... regkey = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(@"SOFTWARE", true); regkey = regkey.CreateSubKey("MyCompany"); On Vista the new permissions lock down, I get the registry access denied exception. How do I elevate the permissions level so that the user at least is prompted to allow access Thanks, Mike Well I've worked out that I need a manifest file to let Vista know that the application requires elevated permission ...Show All
Windows Forms Configuration Manager - possible bug?
In trying to learn the new architecture for application settings in .Net 2.0 I have come across the following and am wondering if it is a documentented error. I cannot access AppSettings or ConnectionStrings using the string indexer, but can only use the integer indexer. For example: System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConnString"].ConnectionString This throws an error - generally that it is null. However, if I use: System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[0].ConnectionString I get what I expected. The same example holds for AppSettings. I have searched these forums an ...Show All

Visual Studio Team System Web Part for source code access?
Is there a web part (and if not, is anyone working on one) to allow read-only access to a project's source control What I'd like is to be able to navigate through the source tree. I want to be able to click on a file to see an colored/highlited file based on the syntax. I want to be able to see what version each change was from and I want to be able to get to any version of the file. In an ideal world (though it'd be much harder), each type should be cross-referenced so that I can click on one and it'll take me to the declaration for it. --Oren We definitely don't have anything quite li ...Show All

Visual Studio Team System Tests not appearing in test manager lists
Hi, I'm using VS.NET 2005 beta2 (not testing edition just normal developer edition) Have a TestProject in a solution with other projects. I've used the wizard to create unit tests, i've added tests manually, I've added existing tests into a test project. But none of the tests appear in the lists in Test Manager only a manualtest1 appears which is one that visual studio added when it created the test project. How do tests get my unit tests to appear in the lists in test manager I can't see any add buttons except to add new tests. I think what I'd expected is that if you add the attributes <TestClass()> and <TestMethod()&g ...Show All
Visual Studio 2008 (Pre-release) Message not being processed
I had this porblem crop up yesterday when I tried to move my application off of my development machine and onto test servers. However I now have the problem everywhere including my machine. When I call an operation my code never gets executed. There is no error or exception or anything. It simply never runs. I created another method called Ping that returns a string and that works fine. In addition the debugger is never able to cross over into the operation, but it does for Ping. Have I broken something in the configuration I know that this worked in the past. I can see the messages reaching the service using the logging and tracing. ...Show All
