HackMax Non-VS client for TS source control?
Newbie question: we have developers who do embedded work and don't use Visual Studio. They prefer their own editors and must use speciaiized compilers/linkers. They currently use SourceSafe for source control. Is there a standalone VSTS source control client that these folks could use We are very interested in changesets, shelving and the tying back to project tasks. Are these only available in Visual Studio/VSTS ...Show All
atisoft Check-in policy results in high use of shelving
Check-in policies are a great idea. The result is that we need to find an alternative method for backup up developer's work, since they will no longer be able to check-in periodically throughout a day. Shelving appears to be the best option. However, shelving requires creating a shelveset name, and results in multiple versions of files if done daily or even more frequently. Shelved projects can be deleted and a naming convention developed, but ...Show All
Mohamed Raafat How do I do a build ?
I installed VSTS on the weekend, and moved my project over to it. It is all good, but now I am in the office, and I can't connect to my server. I can open my project disconnected from source control, but the build menu is all changed - I can't see how to set a release build, and the build option just crashes ( I assume because it's supposed to run the build task, which is not set up yet ). How can I do a build before I go home, I need to deliver ...Show All
werner5 Weird problem with access to source control
Hi, We've got a strange problem wrt source control. We have two Team Projects, let's call them Project A and Project B. Both projects are worked on by pretty much the same people, so the Contributors group is the same in both projects. Team Explorer and Source Control Explorer work fine, but Workspaces do not. For some reason, some people don't see Project A in their Workspace explorer (they do see Project B). The security settings for both proj ...Show All
BLanders How to do strong name signing and digital signature signing in the Team Build environment
We are using Team System Beta3 Refresh at the moment... looking to move to RTM in the near future... If there are some 'real world' examples on how to implement strongname and digital certificate signing properly, so that it is supported in a Development (building in the VS IDE) AND Build environment (Team Builds), please let me know (if there are examples, you can stop reading here ;)). I would be interested in knowing: - which level of the ...Show All

Umeshpradhan tired about TFS ctp december 2005 and sharepoint services 2.0 with SP2
I'm tired from installing and reinstalling and reimaging and retrying of different setup scenarios. Fact is: I've tried over 3 full days and I did not suceed :-((( My configuration corresponds to the given checklists. I have installed a virgin machine with all required software packages including sharepoint services 2.0 SP2. jspliff Active Directory mode
Is the requirement around Active Directory mode just for the AD that the servers are members of My tfssetup account is in a trusted AD and I'm wondering if that could have an impact on our testing. In general, our test servers are in a semi-isolated AD and user accounts (developers, testers, etc) are in the trusted AD. Has this (or a similar configuration) been tested I am working with TFS in a similar environment and am abl ...Show All
Martin Koppmann Versions no longer needed?
From what I understand, versions are no longer visible in TFS. Every change is related to a changeset and developers are comparing/working with changesets. Is a changeset in TFS the same as a revision in Subversion Thanks! Yes. There are not per-item revision numbers in TFS. The analogy with svn is correct. Robert. ...Show All

Eric "Index was outside the bounds of the array" on refresh Team Explorer
Hi, A message box saying that the "Index was outside the bounds of the array" pops up each time there is a refresh of the Team Explorer panel. Everything still seems to work fine though. Anyone knows what is going on I assume it is a problem at the Team server since all the Visual Studio working on that Team Project have the same message when doing the refresh. Is it possible to connect Visual Studio to a Team Foundation Server Proxy only We are planning a setup where the TFS will not be accessible by Team Explorer but only from the proxy. arcon5 Is there no support for native C++ in Team System?
The subject says it all. What test tools in VSTS actually do work for native C++ So far, I've found prefast. I get the impression from the help that none of the unit test tools, or code coverage tools are usable for native C++. Am I missing something, or is VSTS not very helpful for native development I assumed that would work. I'm assuming that I'll get no code coverage data though. Is that correct ...Show All
