just downloaded the MechCommander Source release ( a couple of times)
but Windows tells me thet MC2.exe is not a valid Win32 application. Do
I need to install the XNABuild before I use MC2.exe I am running XP
Professional, service pack 2 and have the full Visual Studio 2005

Invalid Win32 application

Yes David, that seems to have been the problem. The third download stopped well short of the tagert, but the fourth finished in full. Installation started OK then. I should look at Flashget.
Thanks to you both.

The XNABuild runs fine, as does the MC2Viewer. The zip is recognised as soon as it arrives on the desktop. I tried WinRar and WinZip but no luck - invalid or corrupted. I shall try downloading again. The file looks to be the correct size.
Thanks

I moved your post to a new thread since it was off-topic from the previous thread.
XNA Build is not required in order to install MechCommander 2. Can you try downloading and running XNA Build though You don't have to install it (you can click cancel after you get to the license agreement screen) but it would be a good test since it was created the same way as the MechCommander 2 installer.
Here is a link to XNA Build: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=868FE562-5DED-4BB1-8648-708D3481BDA3&displaylang=en
Another thing that some users have been trying is to use a program like WinRAR or WinZIP to extract the files from the .EXE file. The .EXE file is simply a self-extracting archive so that might work for you as well if the archive isn't self-extracting properly on your machine.

Any time I download really big files I use a download manager and for the MC2 file it worked like a charm upon completion. I used Flashget:

You might want to try a download manager if you aren't using one already.
