I have compiled maya 6.5 directx plugin sources from the august 2005 directx sdk release, without too much problems. Should be quite easy for any programmer. Just replace all links to libs and includes from "maya 6.5" to "maya 7.0" and then compile, it works straight out.
This is what we're saying, it doesn't work. It compiles, sure, but it also crashes like crazy and can never export a .x file. And yes, I updated the paths.
What is MS doing about this Anyone know Or do they just continue to ignore their users
Maya 7.0 licenses should be backward-compatible to 6.5. That's what I've been doing. Taking whatever source work there is, exporting it out as .ma file, edit the .ma file to change the "requires" statement from 7.0 to 6.5 (and remove any other requires like mentalray/cgfx/whatever), then import that into a new scene in 6.5 and export to .x from there.
Pain in the *** but it gets the job done.
So, wasn't there supposed to be an exporter built for 7.0 in the Oct. update or are we going to have to wait until December
I've done the same but i get a host of errors specifically related to the .x format in maya. ARe you seeing any of these errors or is it pretty much error free
I have the same issue, any help on this is quite appreciated. When exporting it seems to export the file but then maya becomes unusable, you can't even close it without a crash. That same failed assertion p==0, p seems to be a pointer from who-knows-where and the code seems to indicate that you never ever should expect p to be 0.
Right now, the quickest way to get Maya 7 support in the Maya Preview Pipeline is to compile it yourself (the code is available). While I haven't tried it, it should compile fine with 7.0 once you set up the paths to the 7.0 version of the Maya SDK.
... and if u can find someone to help u get this working please let me know. In major need as a few of my artists are new and we can only purchase copies of 7.0. : | THanks!
Just wondering if anyone had any luck finding a Maya 7 exporter. I'm a lowly artist so I don't know anything about compiling. Please let me know if you have any suggestions where I can find a compiled version for version 7.
Has anyone had any luck recompiling the plugin I tried it last night and w/a few changed (mainly to libs and includes) it compiled w/no errors. But when i load it into maya i get a lot of wierdness. 1) It errors anytime i try and use the viewer.. Debug Assertion failed! la la la \include\atlcomcli.h line : 143 Expression: p==0 So i dunno anything about that. 2) Once i run maya w/that plugin up, everytime i select something or try to work with something within the scene (regardless of having the viewer open) it gives me the same error.
Really just wanna get this working in maya 7, shouldn't be this hard and i'm sure i'm just missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Bryan
