Still using Visual C++ 6.0? Try Visual C++ Express Edition with DirectX!

This is just a short, friendly post to encourage all of you still using an 8 year old C++ compiler to consider using today's new release of Visual C++, including the free Visual C++ Express Edition!

Why move away from Visual C++ 6.0   The list of improvements is extremely lengthy, even for the express edition, but here's a few key reasons for those of you writing DirectX-based software:
1) The latest SDKs no longer with with Visual C++ 6.0
2) The Express Edition is free, and includes the same complete, optimizing version of the C++ compiler that you get in the higher level versions of Visual Studio 2005.  Read here to learn the Top 10 Cool Things about Visual C++ Express Edition: http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/visualc/top10/default.aspx
3) Visual C++ Express will work side-by-side with Visual C++ 6.0, in case you were a little nervous Smile

I imagine the free express editions will finally get people to upgrade their C++ 6.0 installations. In my case, it's a excellent try-before buy. The second all my projects compile with the new compilers, I'll be upgrading the lot. More VS boxes on the shelf :)

    a BIG hurraaayyyyy for Microsoft.

Making the Visual Studio Express Edition FREE is VERY GOOD. Gives students, independent developers, hobbist, etc the opportunity to learn programming for Windows ( which is also good for Microsoft ). This step was very logical, considering the basic Java "suite" and KDvelop is also free ( XCode for the Apple comes for free with MacOS too ). Also, the programs generated with the new compiler are MUCH MUCH more safe ( due to the buffer overrun protection, etc... ), which also is good!!!

thhhhx really appreciated this movement and hope the Express Edition will be free after one year passed!!!

And a suggestion... Do too the offer "Buy Windows XP and get Visual Studio 2005 Professional for FREE"... that will kill tons of piracy...
