Welcome to the Windows Game Development forums!

The Windows Gaming and Graphics Technology group is delighted to offer you these forums to discuss questions related to Windows-based Game Development.  While we expect the majority of questions to be DirectX-related, we welcome any game development related questions based on our currently-supported or pre-release technologies.

This forum is specifically aimed at graphics programming questions.  Shaders, 3D, 2D, texture processing....if you can see it (or can't make it be seen Smile ), this is the place to be!

Before posting a question, please take the time to make sure you are using the latest release (in the case of DirectX, the latest SDK can always be found at http://msdn.com/directx/sdk).  Because the DirectX SDK is updated every two months, many issues can be resolved by making sure you're using the latest version.

Also, don't forget to check the DirectX Developer Center (http://msdn.com/directx) for the latest news on DirectX and Windows Game Development.

Thanks!

So why then, as you say elsewhere, is OpenGL not on topic for this forum It's a currently supported part of the Microsoft Platform SDK .

Although there is some OpenGL support in Windows, I discourage people from asking OpenGL questions here because these forums represent the _least_ likely place you will find an answer to your OpenGL development questions.  Instead, I strongly encourage you to ask OpenGL-related development questions on the OpenGL forums (http://www.opengl.org/community).

My number 1 goal for these forums is to help people get their questions answered quickly and accurately, even if that means pointing somebody to a different website to get their question answered.

I would redirect somebody if their question was regarding games written with Flash or Java as well.
