if you need a 3D modeling program do a search for gmax you can create aircraft and heaps of different vehicles and even people you can create any 3D object you want.

also if you do get gmax there is some tutorials to give you some basic knolige of how to use gmax.

    Good luck with your game.

    Hi,

How big is your group for this project if it's just you working on it then it's going to be a fairly time consuming and challenging unless you have prior experience!

Regarding meshes and animation, typically these will be created by an artist and then imported into your application. For a city it's possible to auto-generate a lot of the basic geometry (e.g. roads), but anything more than that and you'll need some sort of 3D Modelling tool. Don't take this part lightly - if you don't have any experience with these tools they can be very difficult to use. There were a couple of articles on GDNet recently that looked quite good: Using Blender to Make Game Models (Part 1, Part 2)

As for a roadmap - I can only guess for you really! You might want to check out the How To Build a Game In A Week From Scratch With No Budget article also on GDNet.

The trick is to divide your work into pieces and plan ahead of time - don't just jump in at the deep end Smile

    For example, you have
    1. the graphics
    2. the models
    3. the gameplay
    4. any AI to go with the gameplay
    5. any audio work
    6. creating sound effects if necessary
    7. play-testing the game

Also, if you have limited amount of time then try and simplify it wherever possible - there is NO way you'll get close to something like a GTA environment as part of a college project.

I, and others on these forums, can probably help you more if you give us specific questions. It's hard for us to answer broad/general questions...
