One question though: I guess one couldn't run a DX10 app on current video cards so, when beta2 of Vista is released -which will include DX10-, in order to develop, test and run DX10 apps hardware should be upgraded/replaced.
So, any news on DX10-compliant videocards
Maybe I should rephrase my question: let's say one wants to start developing for DX10 as soon as it gets available, so, how can one do
There is no DX10-class hardware ready for imminent release. However, I'm pretty sure that Microsoft is working with the graphics card manufacturers so that by the time Vista launches, there are graphics cards out there to take advantage of it.
It does Microsoft no good to launch an OS that no hardware can take advantage of, and its to the graphics card manufacturers benefit to have graphics hardware available when an OS that makes heavy use of 3D graphics hits the market.
In the meantime, we'll have to use the reference rasterizer to get things going using DX10.
Of course, well a reference rasterizer has been included with all the previous versions of DX. In fact thats going to be only way you can dev until hardware becomes availalbe. And yes the current promise is DX10 beta with Vista Beta2.
You are correct. DX10 needs a DX10 card - there was no mention of when these would be available at either PDC or Meltdown. The couple of PDC demos were movies made from frames rendered by the DX10 reference rasterizer.
Are those movies online anywhere Would have been fun to see.

I would search on tomshardware or anandtech or one of the other hardware sites - they probably have better rumours than I could make up :-)
Hehehe..hope you don't have a copy right on that last statement there. Consider it stolen..:D:D:D

I'm pleased to announce that the DirectX 10 discussion that was part of the overall DirectX presentations at PDC 2005 are now available for viewing through the DirectX Developer Center (http://msdn.com/directx)
