Direct X update

Hi

I have windows xp sp2 v2080 direct X 9.0B and i am trying to install direct X 9.0c but when i install direct X it seems to install fine but if i run dxdiag it tells me i still have direct X 9.0B Installed and the qasf file is old and may cause problems!

    I checked my .log and it tells me that .netframeworks are not installed!

    Is your system fully up-to-date with other security fixes and upgrades I'm not sure what the 'qasf file' is, but I suppose it is possible that DirectX has a dependency that you don't satisfy.

    Try and find the "directx.log" file - I think it's in the \windows\system folder (if not, just run a search on it). It'll probably be quite dense - but it should list the error details.

    That's not likely to be the cause of the problem. If you have XPSP2, you have DirectX 9.0c.
    It's not clear to me why dxdiag is reporting that you have 9.0b (nor why it's claiming that you have an old qasf.dll file).
    Let's get some more questions out of what way here:
    1) What problems are you experiencing with DirectX (That is, I'm assuming you having issues that go beyond DxDiag merely reporting you have 9.0b)
    2) Have you ever run any 3rd party "uninstall" utilities for DirectX on your machine (If so, stop reading and completely reinstall your OS)
    3) Do you see any other errors or warning messages in the directx.log file

    Thats what i tought! That if i have XPSP2 then DirectX 9.0c is inbedded.

    Im experiencing problems with sum games that won't run and direct draw has sum problems!

    haven't run any 3rd party "uninstall" utils!

    Have only tried to update' and tried to reinstall SP2! withed failed!

    Tried installing a virtual PC and the same thing happend there! directX would'nt update!

    I saw there was sum .cab files that the directX.log file said it can't find!

    I have a problem with setup.exe is not a valid win32 application.

    I had this problem when installing Quake 4. I was able to correct it by going into regedit and then going and making a change, but I don't recall what I did to solve the problem.

    Now I'm trying to install another game and I get this message again d:\dndsetup.exe is not a valid win32 application.

    I have installed .net framework 1.1 and 2.0 and I am running xp pro sp2 with all service pack updates. I also checked all my drivers and there doesn't seem to be a problem there.

    Is there anyone that knows how to fix this
    Very frustrated.
