DirectX Extensions For Visual Studio .Net 2005

Hello everybody,

I am having a problem with my DirectX SDK installation. I installed the latest one (Feb2006), and it worked fine. Then, I installed a game (F.E.A.R.), and it seems to have installed an older version od DirectX (still 9.0c, just older).

So, before the installation of the game, when I run the Visual Studio .Net 2005, it shows the list of things installed(in the splash screen thingy), and DirectX Extensions was one of them.

Now, after the installation of the game, when I run the VS2005, it doesnt show the DirectX Extensions there, but there is an empty space instead(before the SDK installation the space wasnt there).

When I go to the About of the VS2005, it says DirectX Extensions for Visual Studio

are installed, but there is not icon/image thingy for it , like the is for everything else(all the languages + crystal reports).

I tried reinstalling the SDK, didnt help. Tried reoving it, rebooting, installing again. Nothing. Trying Modifying it->remove the extensions, reboot, add the extensions again. Nothing still.

Now, I've never used the DirectX extensions thing before, and not sure that I need it at my level of knowledge, but this thing is annotying the *** out of me, so if anybody can help/recommend something, I'd be gratefull.

Thanks in advance,

Anton.

There have not been any DirectX Extensions in VS for some time now. We recommend you use one of the samples as your starting point (Empty Project is a good one).

There's absolutely no need to reinstall Windows, nor to run System Restore. The DirectX Extensions merely install HLSL highlighting and that's it. Is there something that is not working properly in VS 2005 now

Yea, but the thing is that before, it showed up in the splash screen. And now theres just a blank space there(not likea blank space cuz there is no item, but a blank space between two different items. and the psce disaperas with uninstallation of DX extensions)

Well, there may or may not have been extensions for it, but in the DX SDK (Feb2006) it clearly has an option to install extensions or not. And When I first installed it, it was there (in the splash screen and in the about of the VS2005). Its just that I never used it. And now after I installed the game, its still there, but no icon or anything. AND in addition to that, theres no DXDebugService running, nor is there a Windows Service like that. Nor is there a DXDebugService.exe file in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DirectX Extensions. And it was defiintely there when I first installed the FEb2006 SDK. And it was running as a service too.

So obviously there IS a DirectX Extension thingy, its just realy badly misconfigured. And Ive no idea how to use it. If no one can help I guess Im gona end up reinstalling windows. If you dont believe me, I lll post screenshots of before windows reinstall and after.

And by the way, I also tried System Restore, all to no avail :/
