Game Idea (Who would I send this to?)

I have myself here an idea for a computer game. I mainly created this post to find out who would be a good person to send something like this to. All I want to do is play something like this. Also... While I'm here why not share it with all of you.. That way I can find out what others think of it. I appologize for the length. Thanks.

Game Idea

Game set up would be like Age of Empires, Empire Earth and The Settlers 5.

Build your settlement. Build your armies. Conquer.

This idea I have is for an extremely in-depth game. Something that you could get more satisfaction out of even the smallest tasks within your settlement. Obviously in my eyes this is something I could play over and over, but I don’t know how the gaming community is. Okay here goes…

First of, this would be a game that every detail is paid attention to. EVERYTHING. One of those games that cover all the ages from cave men to laser troopers. But I just feel that no game right now covers the detail that would be entertaining to explore. All civilization building games right now work like this.

You begin with a couple of workers. They are able to build, hunt, mine, forest, whatever. (Where do they get these tools to provide everyone with necessary resources ) When building they have a list of some early buildings. These buildings only need maybe 2 types of resources to build. Once done these building don’t really serve any purpose other than researching new technologies. With military buildings your able to produce brand new units with just one click of their respective button. Provided you have gold and food it gets created. I just feel that this flies through a lot of the fine details that, in my opinion, would be a lot of fun exploring. Here is exactly what I am envisioning. Its going to be long, so please bare with me. And please read it through. You might not grasp it until half way through. Thankyou much.

We will go ahead and begin this in the Prehistoric Age. You begin with maybe a group of workers. But in this game, you don’t get everything you need. Like spears to kill with, axes to cut down trees with, hammers to build with. All you have is a group of workers. You need to start gathering resources essential to building a civilization, but without tools, how

Now, instead of buildings being the only places to do research, why not have buttons on units too For example. You click on one of your workers. Early in the game they wont have many buttons. Right now we will say all they have is a button for discovering because being the absolute beginning, where is the knowledge for anything You click the button that says, “Discover Shelter.” As prompted, he will then begin to search his surroundings for suitable objects to provide everyone a place to sleep. Without tools the unit would probably start to gather sticks, grass, rocks, and whatever else he felt would help in making shelter. Him sitting there trying to “Figure this out,” would take place of a progress bar. Once done, the Stick Hut is discovered and added to the build menu of all workers.

While you were waiting for Worker 1 to discover shelter you already set another worker on “Discover Storage”., because right now you have no stores of anything. No resources saved up. Worker 2 has already gathered a bunch of stones together in a circle to locate the storage location. And now the Storage building is added to everyones build menu. So now everyone knows how to build Shelter and Storage. Everyone also knows about the resources of Stone, Sticks/Branches, Vines because of the building cost of the new buildings. So you are able to now have the workers gather these resources from the surrounding area and place them into the storage area. None of this requires tools yet so its just man power.

Now you want more workers. Food is required to make more workers though and we have none. So you set a worker on “Discover Hunting.” He in turn learns to throw stones at small animals to kill them, but how do we get food from them “Discover Meat Processing.” Your workers then learn to hit to rocks together to create a sharp rock, which is used to skin and cut the small animals to provide food.

This is the detail I am talking about. First we got the sharp rock. This would be the first tool of man. This would be something that once discovered, everyone could use. This would be something added to the storage pit’s roster of goods stored. You would have to have a worker set on “Make Sharp Stone,” for him to start making more sharp rocks for more people to use. These would be placed in the storage pit, and once a new worker is created at the home, he would automatically go to the storage pit and grab all he needs.

Now as for food. You now know how to obtain meat from the small animals. You click a worker and tell him to get food. He would gather maybe 10 rocks and a sharp stone from the storage pit. He would find small game, kill it, skin it, cut the meat, and bring back maybe 10 units of meat. That is just one of the many many processes constantly in motion during this game. All these details need to be shown, nothing just appearing. It would definitely make it so that each and every resource in your possession actually meant something to you. You actually worked to get it.

So we know how to create homes, and storage. We know the resources of Stones, Sticks/Branches, Vines, and Meat. Also with meat, we are able to create more workers at the home. This is all plenty to stay alive and keep going as you are, but how would you advance if you did that You need faster methods of doing many things. You need more advanced structures.

Now lets find a way to get more meat in one trip. To do this we would need to go after big game. But we cant kill big game with stones. “Discover Hunting LV.2” Now the Worker attempts the same thing of throwing rocks, but to no avail. The animal just runs away. He needs something stronger. He knows about the sharp rock, so he attempts to use that, but he cant get close enough. Another failed attempt. But this guy has a good idea. Why not attach the sharp rock to the end of one of the branches in the storage pit And so the Hunting Spear was born. And it works well. He just throws it, kills the big game, and then gathers the meat from it. This time he is able to get 25 meat from one kill. Now hunting is going to be much quicker when providing food. That and the spear is now another item in your glorious civilization. A tool that will have many, many uses. You set a worker to build you a few of them.

So now you can hunt pretty well, but why not increase the speed even more. Have a worker “Discover Meat Processing LV.2” He sets out to find a better way to process your meat. He settlers on the idea of having one person hunt, and another skin and cut the meat. So the idea of a butchers house is born, and also the idea of a hunting lodge. Both created with those lovely sticks and vines, but they will do. That’s 2 more buildings to the roster. And now you can assign designated hunters and designated butchers. Both of the required tools are available. Once you tell a worker to work there, he will go gather the required tools and take his station at his building.

Now because of the way the buildings are currently constructed, they should have a slowly diminishing health bar. This would show the effects of weather and time on a structure with no permanency to it. Something will have to be done about that. Yet another thing you could have your workers figure out. Maybe during this discovery period they learn how to make mud bricks by using mud by the water and grass. So now you are able to build all structures out of mud bricks. Houses could be built a little bigger now. And structure life bars will go down much slower. Also, you now have new things available to store in the storage pit. The Mud Brick. And that could be yet another occupation in your civilization. Something that would require its own building. And with its own building you are able to get workers to supplying you with more mud bricks.

Oh great, we got trouble. A leopard is threatening your people. There is no way to defend your people. What to do Wait, you have hunters. Tell them to take care of it. Why is it taking so long Finally, the leopard if dead. At the cost of 2 hunters’ lives. That’s a lot of meat you had to get in order to make those workers too. All gone. If only those hunters moved faster. They could have killed that thing easy. How bout “Discover Military” This will provide us a small little area for us to train maybe 3 workers at the use of the spear. This way they move faster, and strike harder. The Barracks and the Spearman are born.

Now the spearman wouldn’t cost anything special. Just a spear from the storage pit, and time. Those are the only things required. Not 20 gold, 15 wood, and 20 metal. That stuff makes no sense. I understand its simple. Its just that I finally want a game that was a little realistic. Same thing for the buildings. No reason to have it cost anything other than what you can visually see when its done. Like the Barracks. At the time, it would probably need maybe 50 mud bricks. That’s it. Once that’s built, you could start supplying the barracks with spears, from the spearmaker. Another building and job already discovered.

Okay. Hopefully by now you get what I mean by the detail of things. I do understand that this is a slow game. Much slower than most games, but think of all the things going on that will be both fun to watch and play with. There will be plenty to do during the game. Plenty to work for. And finally resources would actually mean something. You would actually have a lot more to work for. Also, this game could easily come in many installments. Being that there will probably have to be a lot of research going into it, I would see the first game covering all the technology to get you from the prehistoric age to the bronze age. Later and expansion could be created to bring you to the Middle Ages. So on and so forth until the game is finally complete with the most future of future ages. It would make the expansion already something anticipated.

I am hoping you find this to be a good idea. I would love to see something like this on my computer. Something I could actually play instead of it being an image in my mind. I have much more detail on my mind, but I think this is enough for now. If there is anything more you would like to know let me know an I will let you know. Thankyou much.

Game Idea (Who would I send this to?)

I would suggest approaching some IGDA members. "The IGDA is committed to advancing the careers and enhancing the lives of game developers by connecting members with their peers, promoting professional development, and advocating on issues that affect the developer community."

You could also just wait and hopefully someone will come along that is looking for ideas to implement. The other approach is to code the game yourself.

It seems like a pretty cool idea.
    Best of luck.

Why thankyou very much. I Appreciate your time. Though I know absolutely nothing about creating games. Hence the reason I would like someone with some know how to see my idea. But you have helped me. Thankyou much.
