If possible, I'd prefer to mark my questions as answered myself. I now had it a few times that my question was marked as answered by somebody, even if I had not read the answer! When I read it I can see if everything is clear to me, then I can mark it as answered. Thanks! ![]()

marking questions as answerd

If only everyone was as dilligent as you. Generally most people don't bother to do this and we end up with a forum full of apparantly unanswered questions. Then we have to look inside each one to see if it needs an answer or not.
As Jack said - if you are not happy with an answer please mark it as 'Not an Answer' and then the thread will show up as needing more work. I have found people are far more likley to do this with a bad answer than actually bother to mark a correct answer. Its not a perfect system but it seems to work better this way.

Can you not unmark answers in your own threads
There are a number of people (mostly the MS staff and the MVP's as I understand it) that have "answer tagging" powers. It's forum policy to mark good answers using the system - whilst I'd hope it helps you, it's also for other members of the community who search these forums.
There are two other possibilities:
- If people forget to check-back and/or don't mark the answers accordingly then people searching these forums now or in the future may not know what replies they should be paying attention to.
- Some people asking questions may not be "qualified" to know when their question has been correctly answered. Having those who do (or should
) know the answer mark them accordingly it can help direct them to the information they need.
There have been a few threads in the feedback forums about like/dislike of the answer tagging.

Thanks! I understand your points. And of course you are right when you say I can unmark "answered" questions. I think the system is quite good actually!
So, sorry for complaining, it was just that I wasn't aware of what you pointed out.
