Have a llok at the following forum, I have a list of books, and comments on them. These books include both of Tom Millers "Managed DirectX Kickstart, and Beginning 3d game programming" as well as others. http://www.ircomm.net/forums/21/ShowForum.aspx
If you are going to use the managed DirectX Kickstart, I would get the updated code from www.thezbuffer.com, I also have links to it from my site (Post above).
Remember that you must have the full code from the original CD that comes with the book before you install the updated code from www.thezbuffer.com
There really arnt any good soilid books out there, from what Im reading, the managed directX 9.0 kickstart book is the only real soild book, all the others have problems from the reviews ive been reading on amazon and on message boards.

The book "Managed DirectX 9 Kick Start : Graphics and Game Programming" by Tom Miller is good. I recommend the same as well.
