I'm just trying to get up to speed on the new Visual Studio 2005 and the new Tools for Office. We do a lot of work with MS Access (and Excel) and what I find odd is that in all the articles I've read there is not mention of MS Access w.r.t. the VSTO. Do the VSTO not work with MS Access What am I supposed to use if I am doing development with Access 2003
Can someone please clarify how VSTO works with MS Access We've already been burned by buying Visual Studio 2003 "Special Edition". It includes the Office Tools that I believe work with Excel and Word. Too bad we bought the upgrade to work with Access 2003.
Thanks for your input.

Here's the info on how VSTO 2005 is packaged:
* VSTO 2005 (including the Access Developer Extensions) will be part and parcel of Visual Studio Team System.
* VSTO 2005 (including the Access Developer Extensions) will all be included in the MSDN Professional and Premium subscriptions.
* VSTO 2005 (including the Access Developer Extensions) will be released as a standalone product.
I hope this helps!
Thanks!

IIRC, it will be possible, with VSTO 3, to develop Access Addin (Source: http://blogs.msdn.com/eric_carter/archive/2005/09/28/474958.aspx).
But, for the moment, you will need to do some MS-Access automation if you want to work with it in your application.
HTH.

I guess now I have to go through the justification process with two options:
1. Ask for approx $250 CDN for the Access Developer Extension Addition to Visual Studio 2003.
2. Ask for $772 CDN to upgrade from VS2003 Pro to Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System. We do not have an MSDN subscription so this seems like the best route. It's too bad that the package Visual Studio 2005 Professional does not include the access developer extensions...seems a shame to give up 64 bit support to get the access developer tools since 64 bit is the future. I'm based my information on http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/vs2005/editions/pro/Default.aspx
Unfortunately for me, justifying another $772 for an upgrade just shortly after upgrading to VS2003 is going to be a tough sell. Time to take off the engineer hat and put on the salesman hat.
Thanks Again

I should be more clear. We are not even developing add-ins for Access. I'd like to do the simple stuff. Develop an Access database (currently just with VBA) and some 3rd party controls. They run the package & deployment wizard (not sure what it's called now) and create a setup file. Currently, we can't even do this with VS.net 2003 and Access 2003. Am I missing something This should be a very simple task.
Thanks

My problem is that the tools to deploy a MS Access database are not included in VSTO 2003. How do I deploy a MS Access database In office 2000 there used to be the package & deployment wizard. Now there is nothing. Reading the advertisements I thought this tool was included in VSTO 2003 but it does not look like it.
