RC1 - Visual Studio Class Designer Package Issue

I've installed VS.NET 2005 RC1 on 2 machines.  I've a project that was created with VS.NET 2005 Team Suite Beta2, including a class design file. On machine 1, I've no problems with Class Designer.  On machine 2, whenever I start Visual Studio, I receive the following in a Yes / No Message Box titled 'Microsoft VIsual Studio':

"Package Load Failure

Package 'Visual Studio Class Designer Package' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {DD1683A7-5A4C-4234-81B3-A4CC91DBEAC9}.  Please contact package vendor for assistance.  Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption.  Would you like to disable loadign this package in the future   You may use 'devenv /resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading."

I've uninstalled RC1 and re-installed it on machine 2.  Everything else seems to work fine, but I'm unsure what to do next.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance,

Howard Hoffman

RC1 - Visual Studio Class Designer Package Issue

I had incorrectly unloaded the Beta 2 to produce my instance of this error. I used the tool specifically provided for this issue by A Stebner at http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/ttool.zip to repair both issues that it easily located.

    Fred,

When you uninstalled the beta2, did you remove Framework and all prereqs (dexplore, msxmls, etc.)

If not, I think this might cause the problem.

This is a leftover from the Class Designer Package in the April CTP.  You can pull it manually from the registry if you want from here:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Packages\

One of the packages in the list should be {DD1683A7-5A4C-4234-81B3-A4CC91DBEAC9}, which you can delete.  The error should no longer appear.  Of course without that piece in place, you'll then have this issue:

I solved my problem this way:
    - Uninstalled VS2005RC1 following the exact order provided on the uninstall screen
    - Ran the different tools to clean up previous VS2005 installs. If you read what Aaron wrote you will find more than one tool. See the links below.
    - Restarted the laptop.
    - Reinstalled VS2005CR1

    Thanks everyone.

  • I need

I have different components installed (no web and no SQL, just C# and C++).
I had beta2 installed previously. I ran into a lot of issues when uninstalling it. May this is some left over from beta2.

I will wait for Microsoft reply.

    Howard,

Is this a clean installation (in a clean machine) We didn't see similar issue before, and need more details to figure out why.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I tried to install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2005 RC1 with Microsoft SQL Server CTP June Edition and it was not possible.
If I installed the SQL Server first the Studio Setup told me to uninstall some components like the Native SQL Client. The other way didn't worked either.
Could someone please help me with that problem
Isn't it possible at all or do I make some mistakes in the order of installation, or do I need a newer version of the SQL Server (I'm not sure that there is a newer version)

    Thanks in advance

Use uninstallation wizard to remove VS2005 beta2 is not sufficient. You probably need remove all pre-reqirments mentioned in my previous reply (go to control panel, add/remove).

After this clean up, you can refer to http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/04/19/409905.aspx about what else you can looking for. (note - this is based on the feedback of beta2, but same issue might apply here).

Then you can start install RC build.

Please let me know if you still have problem.

Is this a product defect that will be fixed, or some odd installation-ism

I don't think it's Crystal related (which would be *really* weird).

    Fred, Howard,
This sounds like an uninstall/install issue.  We have tested uninstalling Beta 2 and installing RTM bits and have found that Class Designer works okay.  However, this requires following the uninstall steps exactly (for example the order in which you uninstalled components).

Could you guys check the GAC to see if you have the older versions still lying around and if so delete them and do a repair of the installation

In the meanwhile, we'll also try to find more info on this issue.

    Thanks,
    Ramesh.

    Yu,

Previously I had VS.NET 2005 Team System Beta2 + SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (April CTP).

I have tried repairing the VS.NET installation, as well as uninstall/reinstall.  No luck there.  Perhaps there's an assembly name I can hand regasm / gacutil or something

    Thanks,

    Howard

Glad to hear that you were able to solve your problem Frederic.  Thanks also for digging up and providing the exact steps you went through to solve your problem.  I am sure others who run into this issue will appreciate it!

What do you want me to look for in the GAC

I ran the SQL Server 2005 Build Uninstall Wizard, then the vs_uninst tool (reboots sprinkled in), then VS 2005 RC1 and finally SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.

    Everything else does work.

    Same issue here.
I have not installed Crystal Report. I'm wondering...
