Greetings, I added a couple users to SourceSafe and assigned them the same user names as their ActiveDirectory User names. Does VSS try and detect if Active Directory exists and checks for users that match the users it's got and manage it that way I'm asking this because I noticed that these users didn't have to put in a password sometimes to access the source Safe DB once they're logged in to their machines. If this is not the case, is there such a way to add users from Active Directory Thanks.

Add Active Directory users as Source Safe 2005 users

Hi,
There is no way to automatically add users from ActiveDirectory. You have to create users manually, using VSS Admin tool.
If your VSS user names match the ActiveDirectory users names and you have enabled for the database "Use network name for automatic user log in" (in SSAdmin, Tools/Options/General page), VSS will not prompt for passwords for those users.

Alin, thanks for your reply. Where can I find this option that you mentioned "Use network name for automatic user log in" I want to check to see if I have that enabled.

In SourceSafe Administration tool (SSAdmin), use Tools/Options menu and look in General page.
