Can't install Visio 2005 after installing VS2005 Beta 2

Just adding to the general noise.  I too have this problem on a clean install of Beta 2, Windows Server 2003 (running in Virtual PC) and SQL Server April CTP.

Trying to figure out a work around but so far no luck.

Check out the newsgroup at http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPost.aspx PostID=9092

Someone there was able to install it by installing Visio from the same DVD that VS was on.

Having the same problem. I uninstalled Beta 1, installed Beta 2 and after having the problems with Form designer run the cleanup tool. The the VS works normally but I  can't install Visio. Also can't install SQL Server Express. In the error log it says that another installation is in progress.

    Thanks,

    No, that did not help.

Hunch is that if I had beta 1 installed, and uninstalled beta 1 before installing beta 2, then viso 2005 would have installed.

I think we all installed vs2005 beta on clean boxes, and viso 2005 says we need to first install the beta, but we did.

This also works if you install VS 2005 RTM as downloaded from MSDN, and then try to install Visio EA 2005. Used Orca to edit the VisVea.msi file, did the trick, install went without a hitch.

Here's what I did for the same problem: Opened VISVEA.MSI in InstallShield, disabled the launch condition that checks for VS8 and saved. Then Visio installed (over VS Beta 2) and seems to work. (If you don't have InstallShield, you could use any other MSI editor. MS even has a free one - Orca.) Good luck.
