Install VS 2005 Standard Ed Hangs on Executing Action: RemoveTempHxDs

I have a 1.2 Ghz Dell laptop with 1 gb of memory.  I started the install almost 16 hours ago.  MSIexec is using 97% of my cpu.  The install failed 2 times before this, but it gave me the option to send a report to MS.  This time I'll just have to kill it.

I have the version that was given to me at the Chicago launch.  I have uninstalled Beta 2 and VS 2003 without any difficulty.

After waiting for about 45 minutes into installation...  Same problem here... Tongue TiedTongue Tied  ahhhhh... never thought I would face a problem during INSTALLATION!!

  • cythe

I had the same exact problem. I disabled everything from the antivirus to my wireless. It still hung. I copied the 2 cd's locally to my hard drive and tried again, leaving the antivirus ON, and it worked.

  • Naria

Do you have a virus checker running
    If so, which one

  • Taposh Roy

    Same problem.

Solution: I concur with those who have suggested copying the files from the CD to a local or network drive (then installing from there). This solution worked for me. (Install failed even with the Anti-Virus software disabled).

In my situation, I performed an uninstall for the first 2 failed (partial) installations BEFORE running the 3rd attempt off the local drive.

    Thank you QuanT

Yes I have Norton Antivirus runs on my box. However, I tried to copy two CDs into one network folder and disable Norton Antivirus. Then I was able to install VS 2005. It pained in the butt! (almost three days). Now I still did not know wherether it caused by Antivirus or it caused by the CD image. Anyway, I think I am Ok now. Thank you very much for your respond. have a nice day

    John
