Package "Visual Studio Common IDE Package" failed to load

I just installed the VS 2005 Beta 2, including the MSDN documentation.  I can look at topics via the Index and Contents just fine; however, when I tried to click on the Search icon on the toolbar, I get a message that reads...

Package "Visual Studio Common IDE Package" failed to load

...and then nothing happens.  The same thing happens if I click on the How Do I icon.  Also, if I click on the little arrow next to the How Do I icon, MSDN--or, more specifically, Microsoft Document Explorer--crashes.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Package "Visual Studio Common IDE Package" failed to load

copy the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VSA\8.0\VsaEnv\microsoft.visualstudio.commonide.dll to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Help 8 directory. That  should solve the problem. There may be multiple problems as per the thread list. But this resolved my problem with Package load failure.

I am using the Simplified Chinese XP sp2 version, there is the same problem on my PC:

"Package'Visual Studio Common IDE Package'has failed to load properly(GUID={6E87CFAD-6C05-4ADF-9CD7-3B7943875B7C}).Please contact package vendor for assistance.Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption.Would you like to disable loading this package in the future You may use "devenv /resetskippkg's to re-enable package loading."

Fortunately, the software "vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool.zip" solve it ,thanks to Limmer and all of you.

    WTH:
If you had beta 2 installed on this same machine, try uninstalling dexplore.exe and reinstalling the RTM version. dexplore is installed separately from VS and the beta version won't work correctly with VS2005 RTM.

My problem was solved using the tool. Thanks to Limmer for the information. Just download the tool from this link http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool.zip.

I had the same problem with VS2005 RTM.
    vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool didn't help me.

Helped removing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDN\8.0\Packages\{6E87CFAD-6C05-4adf-9CD7-3B7943875B7C}\CodeBase registry value and SatelliteDll subkey.

    Cheers!

Ok, in another topic I found a tool that solves these kinds of problems (errors on loading of packages) when going from Beta 1 to Beta 2. The tool can be downloaded via this link http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool.zip.

It solved my problems with Visual Web Developer Express 2005 Beta 2. Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

I have the same issue with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition Beta and ran the above recommended vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool application and it fixed the problem with no adverse affects.

Although there are a few vaguely related versions of this problem, do also check:

I managed to solve my Help issue eventually.

Do as Limmer says.  My VS2005 Beta help was broken until I ran "vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool.zip"

    Jeff,

Does the issue still occur when you change your help preference to "Integrated Help Viewer" in Tools -> Options | Environment | Help

    Hi Jeremy,

I have the same problem and when I change the setting you mention the error message still pops up about 5 times.
The complete error message is the following:

    Package Load Failure

Package 'Visual Studio Common IDE Package' has failed to load or properly ( GUID = {6E87CFAD-6C05-4ADF-9CD7-3B7943875B7C} ). Please contact package vendor for assistance. Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future You may use 'VWDExpress /resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading.

Could it be that this has to do with the fact that I had Beta 1 installed before I installed Beta 2 Some GUID that is referring to the wrong components in the registry

Thanks for any tip, cause it is not really working now...
