VS 2005 Beta 2 install problem

When I try to install beta 2 on my box at home (XP Home) from CD ROM, it freezes almost right away and I need to turn off the PC to get it back up. Do I need to get a new disk or download or has anyone else experienced this problem I'll try to install it at work some time later to compare.

Thanks,
Caroline

Caroline, from my year of working with VS 2005 I would advise installing it on a brand spanking clean installation. This means, for both ease of installation and so you dont accidentally lose something that is important, putting it on a computer that has been freshly formatted. If you only have a single computer but multiple hard drives then you can run a dual boot installation. But make sure that it is a clean installation with the latest updates.

To avoid installation issues, I would make sure that Norton Anti-Virus or any other Security/Anti-Virus programs are disabled. These applications are known to cause lots of installation issues. This might mean making sure you are disconnected from the net if you want to be cautious.

If you try the above, or have tried the above, or feel that you are unable to do the above, please try providing a better description of the problem and situation so others can help. Information that can help a better diagnosis are:

What freezes. Does the whole computer or just the installation. What dialog does it freeze at How long do you wait before rebooting Does the mouse continue to respond and move around the screen Does the start menu work What about Control Alt Delete - does this bring upthe task manager

A complete freeze where nothing responds, such as the mouse no longer moves, etc usually portends to hardware problems. Could be a bad drive or bad or not fully in place memory.

What are your system specs, how old is it
What type of anti-virus/security do you have installed etc.
