Hi All,
I have an install of VS 2005 CTP July 2005 on my DELL PowerEdge box (dual 64-bit processors). The install went fine, but I can't install the MSDN library that was on the DVD. The install says an unhandled excption in msiexec.exe.
Can the MSDN library be installed on 64-bit hardware Or am I missing something else
Thanks in Advance!
Corey.

Can't add MSDN library to x64 install

We have not been able to reproduce this crash. It is definately happening in msiexec.exe immediatley after disk costing completes. Is there anything you can think of regarding gthe disk storage that might be affecting this

You can find the log file in your %temp% (Start>Run>type %temp%) folder. The log file will say MSInnnnn.LOG

Thanks for your help.

My name is Khairun and I am in MSDN Setup test team. We will need the log file to find out what is going wrong. Can you please run the MSDN setup again after enabling the verbose logging. You can enable logging by entering the following reg key.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"Logging"="voicewarmup"
"Debug"=dword:00000002
Thanks

If its Windows 2003, do you have SP1 installed (and Windows Installer 3.1)

Hi Corey,
My name is Laurence and I work on MSDN Setup. The last and most important part of the logfile was truncated so I would like you to make a slight change to the logging entry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\Installer]
"Logging"="voicewarmup!"
This will flush the log contents after each line so we can get it all.
Also, what are the size and free space numbers for your C: and E: drives
Thanks

Would it help to be able to get directly into this box and muck around I placed (this morning) a Premier Support call with our MS US Partner Services Rep (F. Ednie) in Redmond. I assume you will likely be getting a call from him.
Use that trouble call to contact me directly and I'll be happy to post the results to the list.
Corey.

To confirm: this is what I have in my registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\Installer]
"EnableAdminTSRemote"=dword:00000001
"Logging"="voicewarmup"
"Debug"=dword:00000002
I have the DVD mounted remotely (G: drive). I navigate and dbl-click g:\msdn\setup.exe. The first screen of the wizard appears. I click Next. The license agreement comes up. I click 'accept', then Next.
The JIT Debugger screen pops up. An unhandled win32 exception occured in msiexec.exe. It won't let me debug by attaching to the process since it says the 32-bit Visual Studio canot debug 64-bit processes or 64-bit dumps.
The resulting log file can be found at:
http://wirun.homelinux.net/files/public/MSIa37d2.zip
Let me know if I can do anything else.

The new log file is at:

C: drive total space: 6.04GB, free space: 1.43GB
D: drive total space: 24.4GB, free space: 22.3 GB
E: drive total space: 37.7GB, free space: 36.7 GB
Hope this helps. I noticed the exception information was included this time.
Corey.
