OK I have read a lot of post here that lead me to believe CRXI is not compatible with Visual Studio 2005. Or should I say not till CRXI r2 comes out in which case it will support VS2005 .net Framework 2.0. On a Project that is updated to VS2005 from VS2003 and CRXI for the most part went very smooth.
Except and for me this is major CR Version is 10.2.3600.0 in VS2005 where as it was VS2003 it is Version 11.0.3300.0 for me. Ok from all the post I understand this has dumbed down my reports since CRXI is not ready for VS2005 till r2.
In the mean time should we just use the dumb down version of our reports I have seen a lot of post that indicate people can not do this do to controls, processes, or design of there certain projects.
Sorry if I am duplicating other post here. I was looking for a post that might cover everything in one place and not 10.
So far VS2005 looks great and works really well. I have updated most of my projects already but have the CR issue. When CRXIr2 comes out and I install it will this then give me the current version I have installed on my developement machine with in VS2005

Crystal Reports XI and Visual Studios 2005 Questions?
Liviu Antoniu
The initial release of Crystal Reports XI did not support the Visual Studio 2005 (.NET Framework 2.0) platform. This is for the simple reason that Crystal Reports XI shipped before Visual Studio 2005.
Crystal Reports XI Release 2 is the version that will have support for Visual Studio 2005 and is now generally available:

Once you install Crystal Reports XI Release 2 on a machine that has Visual Studio 2005, it will upgrade the Crystal Reports .NET SDK to the latest version.

Thanks for the link. After posting on Business Objects Forums I found this out.
IMPORTANT Be sure to uninstall Crystal Reports XI before installing Crystal Reports XI R2
If you do not uninstall Crystal Reports XI first you will probably get the below issue. I installed the R2 over plan XI. I am pretty sure VS2005 works good. The problem is everytime I open up Crystal Reports XI stand alone it keep opening the Crystal Reports XI Release 2 installer and starts the install.
"Please wait while Windows configures Crystal Reports XI Release 2"
Then it says:
"You must restart the system for the configuration changes made to Crystal Reports XI Release 2 to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to manually restart later."
After my third reboot manually and automatically. You should expect this bug for now on everytime I open up Crystal Reports XI Release 2. Uninstalling Crystal Reports XI before installing Crystal Reports XI Release 2 fixed this issue for me.

Well the funny thing is it does not tell you the other needs to be deinstalled. What it does give you however is two choices on install of XI R2 with XI already on it.

This was posted months ago. Yet the page at http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/xi_release_2.asp
Still does not recommend uninstalling first. Now I have the installer pop up every time I open a project with a report in.

I'm not impressed, BO are trying to get me to spend tens of thousands on a enterprise solution. Yet they can not get the simple stuff right! Not what I was expecting from a world class software company

Anyone know a workaround for this. I took the check for updates flag off, but that only cured the problem in the designer. Will uninstalling help
Any feedback or pointers to FAQ's appreciated.

I know you are right that is sloppy practice. The only reason I did it was I thought I read you need to have XI installed before you can install XI R2. This however is not the case DOH.

What you may be able to do is reinstall over the top again to get all the files in there. Then try uninstalling it again. If that does not work you can try an uninstaller type program that may do it for you. I think there is a Norton Uninstaller not sure though.
Somethings you look back on and say what was I thinking.. *Grin*

I was talking about Crystal's installer not deinstalling the previous version if it needed to be deinstalled, or at least telling you the previous version needed to be deinstalled.
By no means was I expecting that you should have 'known' to deinstall the previous version (but then again this is Crystal and it seems the only safe way to deinstall Crystal is to format the hard drive)

I had the same problem and I manage to solve it by deselecting "Check for Update on Start Up" in the Help menu of the start page of CR designer. The next time I started the program it was fine.

That's nice for you. Crystal XI won't uninstall because it's missing some file. Now I'm forever stuck with this configuration screen.
Stupid.

Did that actually work
