Does VSS 2005 have Netsetup?

One (simple) final question, the help docs say that custom setup gives multiple choices between admin programs, client programs, and help files. However, when I run setup with custom, I see Admin tools, documentation, and server components. Where are the "client programs" at

Just create a folder on the "server" machine and create a Windows share for it such that "clients" could access it (e.g. \\hostserver\vssinstall). Copy there the content of the vSS2005 CD.
Then "clients" can run \\hostserver\vssinstall\setup.exe. They can select Custom install and uncheck "Administrative tools" and "Server components". Continue with the install. The first time a client will run VSS2005 Explorer they will be prompted to browse for a VSS database, and they can point to the server share where the database is \\hostserver\vss

They are installed by default in all configurations (even when you unselect AdminTools, Docs and ServerComponents)

No, it doesn't, but as Rothariger said, you can install it over the network. VSS2005 doesn't create by default a new database like VSS6 did when you installed from CD, so there is no need for a "netsetup" tool that will just copy and register the binaries.

Hi Alin-
This is an old thread, but I have a related question. We would like our many developers/users to uninstall their VSS 6 clients and then install the VSS 2005 client. We do not want them to have the option to install the Administrative tools or the server components (which are installed with the Default installation and available with the Custom installation). The old netsetup.exe for VSS 6 only installed the client, without the Administrative tools. Is there a way to achieve this with VSS 2005 Is there a "silent install" available that would allow us to specify options/parameters to exclude those items that we don't want our developers to install
Thanks,
Andrew

Thank you for your responses. I can't find any doncumentation on how to do this Can you explain how, or direct me to info I would like to do the equivalent of \\hostserver\vss\netsetup at the "client" to install the client s/w.
Thanks,
Mike

Ahhh, excellent! That sounds like it will work. In the "olden days" we wouldnt think of copying an entire CD to HD :) particularly when all we need is a small bit of client code, but those days are gone.
Thanks again.
