I haven't been able to even install .NET Framework 1.1 on my HP notebook with an Athlon 64 running XP Pro (I'm not sure if this is the x64 version or not). Every time I try to install, I receive the following message:
"Setup has detected that another program requires the computer to reboot. You must reboot the computer before installing Visual Studion Prerequisites. Once the system reboots, you need to restart setup. Click OK to reboot. Click Cancel to exit setup and install later."
After rebooting, the same thing occurs. I've made sure that no programs are running in the background, and I've disabled Symantec AV and Webroot Anti-Spyware, but I always receive the same message. I'm new to .NET, and new to 64-bit systems, and perhaps I'm missing something here. The same software easily installed and runs well on my emachines Pentium III box. If you have any ideas or comments, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
TaddeR

First lets determine which Windows you are running. Goto Start Menu->Control Panel->System. That should tell you about the Windows type. If it is x64 Edition then it will say: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
Are you able to install other software on the machine
