I'm trying to insert a PDF file as OLE object, but the width and the height of the resulting object visible over the report (15,74 x 22,28 cm) are smaller than the original page (21 x 29.7 cm), and is not acceptable. (Really... if I do the same things in Microsoft Word, it behaves exactly the same.....)
If I resize the object to desired size, the quality of the print degrades with respect of the original PDF, and is not acceptable.
If I convert the PDF in a TIF or JPG, grayscale, 300dpi, the quality of the print is good! But, in this way, the resulting RPT is quite big: about 8 MB for each image I insert, doesn't matter the original file type I insert in. This is still a problem for me because sometimes I work at home, while the Source Safe database resides to my client, and check-in / check-out are very slooow...
What is really my problem
Here in Italy, we have many forms related to government, tax, VAT, etc... All these forms are downloadable as PDF, and I would like to use Crystal Report XI R2 to create a report with those pdf as background and my fields in the foreground to fill the form, print it, and send it to thousands of people. But I don't know if it is the right product to do this kind of work.... or maybe other thirdy-part products that are more pdf-oriented than Crystal Report...

Insert PDF file as OLE object

Okay, even MS Word (2000) inserts the PDF file as an OLE object small. Tried in OpenOffice and it was even worse....... Ugh!

I am having the same problem. The PDF I am inserting is a full page but when inserted is only about 2/3 of a page. I have tried this in both ReportSmith and Crystal Reports 10 and get the same result so my guess is this is an Adobe Acrobat (Reader) OLE problem.

Until now, the only way I've found to make reports from pdf is by exporting to images (200dpi it's enough to obtain an acceptable quality) and putting them as background of reports... with all related cons of such way...
I'm definitively convinced that CR is not a suitable tool for managing and creating reports from pdf file and that I have to look for a more pdf-related tool. Of course, this is not the most frequent way for me of reporting. But I was hoping that CR could solve also this kind of reports...
Please note that I'm not discussing about the other way around, that is: making pdf from reports. I already know that this is possible but this isn't the original question I posed!
Bye.
