Problem installing .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2

Hello:

I hope that I'm posting to the correct area...

I'm trying to install Visual C++ 2005 Express Beta 2 and the installation process fails.  The failure occurs after the download is complete and the installation of the .NET framework has commenced.  No error information is displayed, other than the notificaton that the error has occurred.  I've turned off Spybot, for what that's worth.  Any ideas on how to proceed

    I am experiancing the exact same problem. I have also checked the log files and appear to have the same error messages. I you coud let me know how to fix this problem I would be very grateful

    There is no mscoree in my system32 folder.  Is that the problem   What does mscoree.dll do

    Thanks for the reply.  No, there is no existing .NET framework.  I saw that possible explanation listed on the Visual Studio web site FAQs.  I've gone over all the FAQs and troubleshooting information on the Visual Studio site and none of it appears to match what I'm seeing.

    Can you look at your logs in your %temp% folder.
    The framework logs look like dd_netfxui* and dd_netxfxmsi.
    If you see an error, post it along with the lines above it.
    The dd_vserror80.txt also provides clues as to why it failed.

    I'm following up with Dave to find out what tool he used to unlock the registry.

    To close the loop, this is an issue with registering TLB files during the framework installation.

    try renaming mscoree.dll in your system32 folder and then try to install the 2.0 framework.

    Hi Dave

    Im hoping you can assist me too....except I'm not as PC savvy as the previous posters & you may have to direct me through to the logs. I have WIndows XP & have recently purchased & installed Norton Antivirus 2006 & Norton System WOrks 2006. ONly problem is, systemworks - Norton Ghost in particular will not work as it requires the program dotnetfsxIExpress Setup Microsoft to work. After I've done a Norton Windoctor scan, it tells me I'm without the necessary file 'mscoree.dll'.

    When Norton asks me if I want to download the necessary file from Microsoft & I click yes, it gets all the way through, then says "Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 setup has ended prematurely".

    ANy assistance would be hugely appreciated! Kind regards, aly

    mscoree.dll redirects apps to the right framework version.
    Do you have the 1.1 framework on that machine
