I'm using VS'05 Pro. The search function of help has stopped retuning local items. It used to work, and the only change I can think of is that I uninstalled VS'03. I've tried both the repair and to reinstall MSDN Library from the December '05 DVD, but it has not fixed the problem. Help is configured to "try local first, then online" and the local help option is checked in "Search these providers". It does appear to spend some time doing a local search, but always returns 0 items.
On accessing MSDN Library directly from my Start Menu, the local find for the same topic does return items.
Any thoughts

Local Search from VS'05 returns zero items

Hello rpk_isv
Sorry that Local Help is not working for you. Can you please let me know which MSDN library you have on the machine. To find that out just go to Add\Remove and look for MSDN library. Is it MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005
If you have MSDN library for Visual Studio 2005 then you can try this solution to fix the problem.
Rename Help folder at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Help and then run repair on Microsoft Document Explorer 2005.
Thanks

This advice is so time consuming, and it doesn't solve the problem at all. Just imagine to "repair" both VS and MSDN. It's almost like reinstalling the whole product !
This is such an imbecil advice.

Can you try the following steps.
(i) Close all Visual Studio and MSDN windows (reboot is hightly recommended to ensure that nobody is holding on files).
(ii) Repair Microsoft Document Explorer 2005.
(iii) Repair Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
(iv) Repair the “MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005”. Note that it is not the same as MSDN December library.
(v) Try local search in VS 2005.
(vi) Try local search in MSDN Library for VS 2005.
Please let us know if this resolves your issue.
