I have VS 2005 installed and it comes with a set of documentation which you can filter via drop down box, which is great. But I am doing some sharepoint development and I really don’t want to switch between the two systems or more if I have other SDK docs I need to look at, can I add the sharepoint SDK or any .chm file to the VS help system which should be automaticly searched via dynamic help also.
I think I am asking for the impossible.
Cheers,
David

I want to add additional documentation to VS help system.

Hello Michael - you seem to be describing a different problem than Olaf. You are seeing script errors on all help pages when set to local (instead of Online)
Thanks

Hello Olaf - we have isolated the problem and are currently testing a fix. Once the fix has been tested we will probably make it available through a Knowledge Base article, to which I'll post a link.
Thanks!

and it's even more annoying, getting no helppages at all, if you are not online (because of the script error).

Thank you, Olaf! I have indeed repro'd the problem and alerted the localization team that was responsible for the localization of that topic. They are currently investigating what can be done to address this. I'll reply here as soon as I find out more.

I also have the same problem.
Will you post the solution on this page or have you done it already direct to Olaf
Hope, you do it here.
Thanks

it should work as you described - and did in .Net 2003. But in VS .Net 2005, German Version, I recieve several script errors as soon as I open the page and again when I hit the update button. Therefor I'm not able to configure anything via the Collection Manager. What can I do

Olaf

Hello David, you're only asking the 'sort of' impossible. :)
Actually there are some options for integrating content from other Microsoft SDKs, and some 3rd party SDKs, but it largely depends on whether they created those SDKs in the same format as the Visual Studio .NET 2002/2003/2005 help content.
I'm not sure offhand what format the Sharepoint development SDK help files are in, but if they are .chm files, then they will not be able to be integrated into the system.
In VS 2005, you can navigate to the following topic:
ms-help://MS.VSCC.v80/dv_vscccommon/local/CollectionManager.htm
You can either enter that in the address bar or do a search on 'Collection Manager' in the documentation viewer. Once that topic is loaded you should see a list of Help collections that are compatible with the VS 2005 help system. You can select a collection to integrate with the help system by checking the check box and then selecting the Update VSCC button. This will require shutting down and restarting Visual Studio 2005 for the Help content to get merged properly.
Let us know how you make out!

Michael:
Sorry for the delayed response. The test team is still working on this as far as I know. I'll try to get a status for you.

Pressing F1, i get the Message:
"You have chosen to use local Help only for Search and F1 results, and the topic could not be found in local Help.
To correct this error ....."
This message always appear, no matter what option is set in:
"When loading Help content"
o Try online first, then local
o Try local first, ..."
I only get helppages from online, there are no local helppages found.
Without online connection, no help !
Using the tool "H2viewer.exe" from "the Helpware Group" I can find the wanted pages on my harddisk, there are all 1,8 GB MSDN Files !
Searching a solution in the internet, i found the advice to add the helpfiles again with the Collection Manager. And that's the point, to join Olaf Neuendorf.
Trying this, i get several script errors.
But you may be right, my main problem are the original help files, he cann't find on my disk. So the installation was not correct.
hint:
I installed the MSDN Files on drive "D:" (because of space), it's a network drive, like
D:\MSDN\MSDN8.0\...
Maybe you have another solution.
