Trying to find the Word/Excel & VSS integration tool

In MSDN article Q165496 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx scid=kb;en-us;165496) there is reference to a tool that will allow me to integrate VSS with Word/Excel.  It says to go to the "Free Downloads" at the VSS site, but once I get there I can not find the utility.

Does anyone know where to find it   Better yet, can someone provide me with a direct link to the page

Thanks!

Trying to find the Word/Excel & VSS integration tool

Seems rather absurd since it is `advertised' on the MSDN site.  Tongue Tied

    Hi,

The Word/Excel plugin referenced by http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx scid=kb;en-us;165496 was not a Microsoft product. According with the article's text, it was provided by "Baarns Consulting, a vendor independent of Microsoft", and it applied to some old version of Word/Excel (Office '95), and old version of VSS (VSS 4.0).
Since these products are no longer supported, I can see why the plugin is no longer available for download...

I am not aware of a plugin that integrates more recent versions of Word/Excel with recent versions of VSS.

I don't know for sure. Someone in this forum may know better:

Personally I doubt there will be support added for VB6, which is a 7 yr old application.

Agreed.  I simply gave up.  I didn't have time to deal with ineptitude like that.  I was expecting someone to update the article; but, I guess no one cared.

I've been using the regular VSS Explorer to check documents in/out as it is.  I found the VS Tools for Office in my MSDN package, but it requires VB .NET; my office is currently only using VB6 (migrating to .NET within 12 months I hope).

Any ideas if there is a set of VS Tools for pre .NET   We are running Office 2003 w/ WinXP 2002 Professional SP2, and VisualStudio 6.0 SP6.

I have no idea what MSDN guys have updated in the article (it can be anything, even a typo), but it's definitely not the product versions to which the article applies.

If you really have VSS4 and Office95 and need the plugin for those products, I'd try contacting Baarns Consulting at http://archive.baarns.com/pages/mainfeed.asp
or contact MSDN Support, perhaps they have a backup of the old pages.

As far as I know, newer Office versions include VSS integrations in their Developper Editions (VBA) and also VisualStudio allows Office integration in VSTO.
If you have a standard edition of Office you can still checkin/checkout documents from VSS using the stand-alone VSS tools (VSS Explorer, command line)

I inquired about that too.  No one seems to know anything about it.

Articles about older software would be fine and dandy, except for the fact that the last review date is February 11, 2005, which is definately after newer versions of VSS and Word/Excel were released.

The Baarns Consulting page also has nothing about the plugin.
