With IE7 Beta2 installed on my machine, the help system crashes VS2003 frequently when the internal help option is used. DocExplorer crashes sometimes when used as an external viewer. Also, some entries lose all formatting and display as black text on a white background.
Is anyone else having these problems I haven't tested this with VS2005.
I could uninstall the IE7 beta but I'm hoping there is some way to force DocExplorer to use a different version of the WebBrowser control. Is there such a customization
Thanks,
Jeremy Boschen

Thank you very, very much for your help.I did see that link before but was a little confused about the contol panel bit and didnt want to mess with the system files. But i just cut&pasted the command line into the 'run' box and everything is the way it was.I really liked IE7..but it may be a case of my PC not having the speed to deal with it.I sent every error report when IE7 was saying it had to close due to an error.
Thanks again Saurabh.

Hello, we are Durga and Bala, from the IE IDC team. We would like to describe to you, a new feature in Internet Explorer 7 and 7+, Reset Internet Explorer Settings. We have heard from users on their need to recover Internet Explorer to a workable state if it reaches an unusable state due to spurious add-ons, incompatible browser extensions, spyware or malware. Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES) provides a one-button solution to get Internet Explorer settings to its workable state.
Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP and 7+ in Windows Vista have many security enhancements which make Internet Explorer less susceptible to spyware and malware. But still browsing experience in Internet Explorer can get affected by badly written add-ons. This feature allows Internet Explorer to recover from such situations.
After RIES is run, the user will notice default settings of Home Pages, Search Scopes, Browsing History, Form Data, Passwords, Appearance Settings, Toolbars, and ActiveX controls.
To invoke RIES from IE7 and IE7+, go to Tools Menu, Internet Options, Advanced Tab and click on Reset… button. If Internet Explorer is in a state where it cannot be started, one can get to RIES from Internet Options in Control Panel.
After choosing Reset… from Internet Options, a confirmation dialog is displayed, warning the user about settings categories that will be reset during its operation. A help link on the dialog takes user to help pane explaining all settings that will be reset. When continued, a dialog provides feedback of progress on these categories and finally asks user to restart their Internet Explorer.
RIES resets four types of settings:
Notes on RIES:
In our experience, for machines where Internet Explorer is in a bad state, the most common request is to make recovery easy and automated. RIES is a step in that direction. We welcome your feedback to improve upon its functionality.

Yes, I have exactly the same issue with VS2003 Hep crashing.
For the Microsoft support guys (Saurabh Jain MSFT, Paul ORear MSFT, et al), I can share the following Application Log events. And yes, I've sent the error reports.
The app log records:
Faulting application dexplore.exe, version 7.10.3077.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5346.5, fault address 0x000780b2.
Always with the same address.
Sometimes the accompanying log is present:
Faulting application dexplore.exe, version 7.10.3077.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00610064.
As far as my security settings for plug-ins, Yes I allow them to run. I presume you meant to ask about Add-Ons: I of course have a number installed, Are there any specifically of concern
I had the Google toolbar active when I upgraded, but have since turned that off.
I may not be related, but I also cannot see the File menu, etc. toolbar unless I select the Classic Menu check. I could swear this menu set was visible when I first installed IE7 until I moved the Links toolbar to the same line. I now cannot get the Menu toolbar back without selecting Classic Menu. Is this as designed or another problem

Hi Jeremy,
Did you by any chance uploaded the watson crash report Or if it crashes again, can you upload the watson report After uploading the crash report, can you look into the event log and share the entry for the watson report The entry will allow us to locate the crash dump and find out the cause of the crash.

I'm not sure if you noticed my reply to the original poster.
I have uninstalled IE7b2 back to IE6 and that fixed the problem. I've reupgraded to IE7 and the problem is back.
I did discover that the Google Toolbar was still registered as a BHO, so I've uninstalled that, which has improved the error reporting. The latest app eventlog entries are:
Faulting application dexplore.exe, version 7.10.3077.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5346.5, fault address 0x000780b2.
Fault bucket 285255246.
I allowed the error event to upload the crash dump via automatic error reporting.
Does that help Do you need more detail
