I downloaded the VS.NET2005 Pro and SQL 2005 Dev Editions from the MSDN site and have been trying to install it on my IBM Think Pad for the last week.
When installing at the point when the install says "Installing .Net Framework 2.0" I get a blue screen of death. This happens both for SQL 2005 and VS2005.
I then tried to install just the .net 2.0 framework and get the BSOD.
below are the dumps in my Event log (I have the actual .dmp files to)
I have tried switching off my Windows Firewall etc as I found ONE post about someone having a similar problem but the issue was Zone alarm. But this did not even help.

Blue Screen when installing VS.NET 2005 Pro

Does it work with you now
I actually found out, last week, that Symantec Antivirus is not causing the BSOD.
It must however be some services installed on IBM machines, cause my machine works now :-)
Btw. Merry x-mas and a happy new year.

My IBM laptop T42 have been running without BSOD.
All normal IBM services and programs from startup have now been enabled again. The only thing not being enabled is Norton AntiVirus.
Should you experience something similar to me, then make sure that the Anti-Virus software is disabled.
We can then only hope that Symantec comes with an update.

So the ram or hd, is not the problem I think. It has something to do with the IBM laptop.

Its funny because we have installed VS.NET 2005 on other IBM laptops and had no problems. All very similar or exact hardware configuration as mine. For some reason mine was blue screening.
Happy New Year to you as well.

I get the same bluescreen (Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bf8e5f91, parameter3 96f2a868, parameter4 00000000).
It happens when working in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio while working with table data (especially when scrolling through the data). It also happens in Visual Studio 2005 when working with the data set designer, and also when working with the DataGridView. I'm running on a ThinkPad T60p and I've got another T60 that has the exact same problem. The only other issue is that the grids will twitch or jump on the screen for an instance, usually leading up to the bluescrren.
I can consistantly reproduce the issue, but i can't seen to find any resoultion. I've tried all sorts of different combinations of drivers, install order, ect... but just can't seem to fix it on either laptop. Both running XP SP2.

Thank you for the input.
I have disabled all the IBM programs and services beside the Access Connections (Network Connections Manager).
It seems to be working now. My laptop has been switched on for several hours now without BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
Before when all the services and programs was running, I succeeded in installing both the .NET 2.0 Framework and Visual Studio Express C#. However a BSOD appeared every 5 min.
I suspects Norton Antivirus which was installed and was running. But I will investigate further.
I am happy though, that I finally managed to get the IBM laptop running .NET 2.0 Framework.
