  As far as I know, there's no way to tell the different between two cores and two CPUs. You might be able to tell if HyperThreading exists; but that won't necesarily tell you how many socketed CPUs you have (e.g. if you have two dual-core CPUs it would appear as 4 CPUs, if you assume only one CPU when hyperthreading, then you'd miss one CPU.)
