I have the same problem, I tried to install the VWD along with SQL Express checked, the SQL Express installation just hung at the end, I left my PC on for about 2 hours now hoping that it will finish but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Note: I install the express on a brand new notebook PC.  No prior Beta version exist.

    Anyone has any suggestion

    Thanks in advance

I had the same issue with vcs.

Just click cancel, and then restart the installation. The files are already downloaded so you won't risk to loose the download time.

But a thing i can't figure is why you want to install beta versions while final versions are available and free :)

Ok, there are only in english at this time but you should be able to get localized versions before 3 months according to Ms previsions.

I was haveing the same problem, but I installed the US Version. Now after doing what was recommended SQLExpress Failed to start as a service. This is on a Brand New PC with a fresh install of Win XP Pro and all the updates. The only software installed is Anti-Virus and VB Express.

this is very annoying, i went and download sql express 2005 (english version, non beta) and told me to uninstall every beta from vs2005 i had installed, i did and now sql server tell me i have to install net framework 2.0 first, i tried to install the net framework 2.0 beta 2 through vs2005 beta 2 installation BUT i notice i have to download AGAIN the whole software from microsoft, since i have dial-up conecction this is a real shame. i`ll have to download and install net framework and then vwd 2005 english non beta ed. and vb.net 2005 english non beta. this may be something about 200 mb or more. oh boy, here we go again...

I can't seem to install the SQL Express, it got to a point where the status listed as "Setting File Security" and just hung there for hours; I stopped and ran the setup again and got the same result.  I am not sure if I should keep my PC on overnight to see if it will ever reach the finish line.  After all, this is only an express edition, so it should be install in minutes with a new P4 PC/512MB ram right not in my case.  No wonder Microsoft giving all these out for free.

One important thing about SQL Server Express : if your operating system language isn't english, you'll have some installation troubles with Sql Server setup.

According to your case, you'll have to cancel the installation and restart it *without* sql server checked.

After that, go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ and download the whole sql server setup file.

Run the setup. Once you'll see a wizard page containing a checkbox saying something like "Hide advanced configuration options", *uncheck* it.
Continue answering to the wizard until you're on the accounts used to run sql server on your computer.
There, choose "Local System" in the list of available accounts to run sql server; normally, once you'll have changed that, setup will perform without anymore errors even on a non english language system.

Hope this will help you to finish your installationSmile

thanks a lot for this information, i'll do what you say and see if it works.

about english vs spanish versions of vs2005 express, i thought the non beta versions would be US$49 each, that's why i'm installing the beta ones, where can i find the final versions for free

Actually, Spanish versions aren't available (they will normally be ready within 1-3 months), but as you can see here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/, these versions are *free* if you download and register Smile

    Help!
