I had beta 2 of VB.net Express and Web Developer. I don't have the uninstaller anymore, but I do have a lot of registry items to remove. Some of them are easy, of course look for v.8.0 and for Express 2005, but I want to make sure I get them all. Does anyone have a list of what I need to remove And to make sure I didn't forget any files, anyone have a list of the files to delete Or, even better, if anyone has the beta 2 to install so that I can use the uninstall method, that would be great. The two methods posted do not work. I use that special uninstaller, and it can't remove anything, probably looking for an uninstaller that no longer exists. Please, any steps beyond the ordinary posted all around the websites would be most helpful.
Thanks!

HAD Beta 2 But do not have uninstaller

Yes, I tried that other uninstaller. Similar to the original, the program was named ttool.exe, it took an extra step, I forgot what it did, but in the end, it took out my new .net Framework 2.0 v 50727... So, I'm not going to fool with that one again. I have other apps that rely on that framework.
If there's a list of registry items available, I find that much more reliable. I can't see if you are going to remove all Beta versions, why can't the program gain access to removing the registers (unless you have limited access)... but Administators...setup, installed, why not remove If this is an uninstaller, it shouldn't need to look for another program's uninstaller. Just call for the registers. Get what information you have from registers and have the program work from there. Once data is collected from registers, the program should remove the programs that can be accessed through the data in regs, remove the registers, and perform a final sweep of what's missing. I don't get why some programs can't collect everything if it is no longer going to be in use. Immediately stop the processes. Microsoft builds the programs. They awt'a know how to be able to close them on demand.
If you can come up with a list of what needs to be removed, I can try to come up with a program that can access and remove them. But thanks for the tool anyway.

It's ok... I'll work with it. Thank you for that extra page off microsoft's main site. That is helpful for the sql part. I'm in a middle of a few problems, one with Windows One Care, and another with Windows Defender just caught a "virus" that points to a MS Visual Studio 2003 MSDN file... I don't have it written down, but I think it was "dhcp.hxs". Its funny, becauase I've had that file, well the whole folder of help files, there for a long time. Today was my first time actual full run of Win Defender, and it gives me such a strange error. The other scanners don't catch it...even if I single out point at that file scan. And everytime I open up Internet explorer from its icon, it attempts to download the page. Something fishy is going on here...and I don't like it. :p
Thanks again for that page recommendation!

Yes, of course. I said that I used it back on another message you also replied to with the same solution. I get an error message that I might not have full permission. Here's my reply the other day. I own the computer and am set up as Administrator group. The program will not work. Unless there's a way to override its decision, I have to remove it myself through registry. Any other ideas, I'm all ears. The registers are still filled. Problem was, back last month or so, my computer crashed. I used system restore, and it restored my registers and files using the backup... etc. I had created a full backup of my harddrive last year with this stuff on it. Since the creation of the backup, I removed the betas. Last month, when I updated the computer after the crash, all the data came back to registers and folders, but I don't have an uninstaller that works. My last resort is to delete it myself. I'm fine to do it, but I just want a second opinion of what I need to remove incase I miss something and so I don't hurt my standard 2003 version.
Thanks...! (below is previous message)
The second page was very helpful, thank you...however I don't have any uninstaller left and some things are still in registery and other places. Since I didn't have an uninstaller, I tried the automatic program "vs_uninstall_betas.exe", and it recognizes that I have components left on my machine. When I go to to select what I want to uninstall and click next however, it goes through the process to uninstall, then gives me an error :
Tool failed to uninstall some components. Please verify that you have full administrative priveleges, reboot your machine and try to run this tool again.

A beta/CTP is not tested as thoroughly as a release version so there is always a risk involved with using betas.
You could also try to report this as a bug to microsoft at the product feedback center.

Same problem here.
Cant install visual basic 2005 express because it says i still have older beta2 components. they dont ever apear on the add/remove programs.
If i run the auto uninstall program for beta releases, it gives an error, because it surelly can not find the vcsetup.msi file. Of course it cant... its deleted....
So, can anyone give me a clue on how to do this how can i fix this with the regedit... wich are the directories do delete....
Thanks

oops, I did not see that.
My bad, sorry.
I do not have any new suggestion, as you already know.
There might be no automated solution for you to use since it was a beta. The tools I already linked to is what I have found and I do not expect any new tools to appear.
