Registration benefits

I just read the announcement about the benefits of registration. I already had registered so of course it didn't let me register again. Is there a way to still get the downloads or should I now know never to register an MS product until they have some registration benefits announced

    Andreas;
    I get this:
    This is the msg:
Microsoft E-Learning Courses – Your choice of two Microsoft E-Learning courses that provide you with an effective way to improve your skills or prepare for a project - at your own pace and on your own schedule. Most e-learning courses include hands-on virtual labs

    at the registration benefits page.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/register/

What E-Learning Courses are part of my benefits if not the Promo
and how do I get them

If you are registered you can take part of the benefits. Check the registration benefit portal.

    http://connect.microsoft.com

Log in with the e-mail you registered with.

    Andreas;
I went to the portal. It lists benefits that include e-learning. There is no active link that I can see.

    I search for e-learning and I get:

What page do you get this information about the e-Learning promotion I do not get it on any Express pages or inside the portal (http://connect.microsoft.com).

It seems as the e-Learning promotion is not related to Express Edition registration. It is a separate promotion from Microsoft.

I have tried numorous times over the past week and always get the same results.

According to the page suggesting that you register your Express copy...

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/register/

    It says registering gets you

    - a Corbis image pack

    - IconBuffet Studio Edition Icon Suite

    - Various components

    - Ebooks and Articles (linked to at the page)

When I registered my copy of VBExpress, the email has a link to the Registration Benefits Portal:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ LinkId=52054

Which, when clicked takes you to a Passport log in page... which when you do shows you

Error: The page you have requested is unavailable or you do not have access.

    (https://connect.microsoft.com/downloads/downloads.aspx SiteID=40)

Sooo.. what am I doing wrong

When I go to the Microsoft Connect Welcome page, all I can do is register for various beta projects.

I am having the same issues as most posters in this forum. That is, the Downloads (i.e. Corbis, Icon Buffet and various e-books) are not available.

After I registered and sign in to the Benefit portal, I am presented with the following error message:

Error: The page you have requested is unavailable or you do not have access.

I click to connect to the Home page where I an presented with My Particpation and Avalable Programs links.

My Participation indicates that I am not enrolled in any programs and directs me to Available Programs

Available Programs has many useful programs to join but there are no mentions of the free downloads. I have revisted the page many times only to find the eror message still appearing. I have emailed MS on this and requested where I could get the downloads and recieved no response.

Since I am new to programing and am trying to teach myself, these three e-books would be very useful to me:

    • Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition: Build a Web Site Now!
    • Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition: Build a Program Now!
    • Microsoft Visual C# 2005 Express Edition: Build a Program Now!

While the Corbis and the IconBuffet would be nice to have also as a bonus, I really am interested in the e-books. Does anyone know where to get them Anyone Anyone

I don't know much more than you so I would recommend you contact microsoft. There is a link at the bottom of the page http://connect.microsoft.com

    http://connect.microsoft.com/ContactUs.aspx

You will probably get a more informative response from them.

  • Beuker

The connect.microsoft.com has been unavailable at some time. Just try again later.

When you do get on the connect site you should have a option "My participation" to the left. Go there and then you should see the link to the benefits portal...

  • Katil

Yup I'm getting exactly the same problem. When I go to the connect homepage and follow all the links there is nothing in there pointing me to registration benefits!

If this whole registration benefits thing is an incentive to get people to register more, then I really think Microsoft have to look into the usability of the service they are offering. You've made a promise to me, now fulfil that promise please and stop wasting my time posting in here and wondering around on this site

  • Fabrizio Leoni

I've seen this problem when the Passport I registered VS Express with is different from the Passport I'm using to access the Express Registration Benefit Portal (https://connect.microsoft.com/downloads/downloads.aspx SiteID=40). Basically it indicates some kind of authentication problem. If your copy of Express tells you it's registered when you select Help/Register Product... and you click on the link above and sign in with the same information you used to register, and you're still not getting the right page, definitely try http://connect.microsoft.com/contactus.aspx.

    hotchilidamo,

I am not Microsoft nor speaking for them. I have registered all express editions. Last time I checked (a day ago or so) I could download 9 items as benefits from http://connect.microsoft.com.

I know some users had to wait a day or a couple before they could see all the benefits they could take part of. I also know that the website has been unavailable for myself a few times, but I tried it later and could connect and take part of the benefits.

If you explain what you want to do and what you expect maybe me or somebody else can help you.

  • Useless

I do not get any information about e-Learning on that page. I can not provide any info on how you get those. It should be mentioned in the registration mail you get or at the benefits portal at http://connect.microsoft.com
