Installing over VS 2005 Beta 2

Question 1: What is the correct way to install VS 2005 Standard over VS 2005 Beta 2. Should Beta 2 first be removed and then install the Standard VS or is it ok to install over the Beta 2 version.

Question 2: I have been trying to use the different starter kits and the .vsi files are not recognized by VS 2005 Beta2. I am hoping that by installing VS 2005 Standard this will take care of this issue or is there something else I need to do to rectify this problem. I have searched for answers but have not come up with anything that is helpful. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks
John

Thanks for answering my post. I tried your link for the uninstall tool and I recieved an error message that is posted in my reply to Andre. It looks like I am going to have to remove it all manually.

On the 2nd question: When I say that the downloaded .vsi Starter Kit file is not recognized, the icon on my desktop shows that it is not assigned to any appication. I tried to open it in VS 2005 Beta 2 but nothing happened. There was no error message.

    Thanks again for the information

Thanks for the response. Your post answered my question however, after trying to download and run the uninstall tool I get this alert:

File [vs_uninst_betas.exe] was not completed sucessfully, error 41,0
Please contact support@speedbit.com with this error

    Error 1270

So I sent the error report back to speedbit.

I have used the tool before with no problems when upgrading from Beta1 to Beta2.

I will probably end up using the manual method to remove everything....I'm lazy and just want to get it over with!
    Thanks again,

Thanks again for your response. So that is what I have to look forward to! I  also have the Beta 2 of the Team System Suite Edition. I would like to prevent having to reinstall XP so I guess I will try and remove manually before going through that! If you also tried to remove manually and had problems I would like to know before I begin the process.

I also had trouble to completly remove the BETA2 of the Team Suite Edition. So I had to reinstall WindowsXP. The uninstalling tool doesn't work correctly. The uninstallerer removed all products, so that I can't remove them with WindowsXP, but the uninstallers leaved some remains. I cant say why.

Question 1: Ensure that you either use the uninstall tool (linked below) or follow the instructions at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/uninstall/ exactly.  Uninstalling in the wrong order will prevent the beta from being fully uninstalled.

Question 2: What do you mean by "not recognized "  What error message do you see

I guess that is what I will have to do then. Now I just have to go through the process...back up, reinstall and all the other fun stuff!

    Thanks for your feedback

Yes, I also tried do delete registry keys manually, but this doesn't work.

Reinstalling XP is the best way, I think.

You can't install the .net 2.0 final over the beta2. Download the removal tool from MS and remove all products based on the BETA2.

After successfully removing the BETA2 you can install the final .net 2.0.
