Registration is somewhat confusing

I think I registered successfully but I haven't received a key, only a thank-you email. Does anyone understand exactly what is supposed to happen when registering Thanks.

    I should have been more clear about the product I am referring to, which is SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. My bad!

    I downloaded the executable and install from it, so I assume then that I don't need a key.

    I just want to be sure we are all on the same sheet of music. Both versions are downloaded. One is installed via the internet and the other is installed from an image file that was downloaded.

    If you installed from the image file you downloaded, the email confirmation you got means it was registered. You will not get a key.

    If you installed via the web, you should get a key when you choose to register the product.

    I've downloaded the image files at home and have only gotten the email registration and when I installed via the web, I had to register and when I did... I was presented with a registration key.

    It's working as designed for me.

    Did you install from a CD or by downloading from the web   If you install from a CD then you won't receive a key, the e-mail is the indication that you completed registration.  If you installed from the web, then you will receive a key during the registration process which you can then enter to register your copy.

    No problem! I believe the registration process for SQL Server Express Edition is different from the other Express Editions. I'm looking into it for you now.

    If you downloaded the executable and not the ISO or IMG file then you should go through the registration process. I forgot which menu option it is, (I had to uninstall VB 2005 and install VB .net because of a class I'm in) but you will be given a link. Follow the link, sign in to the passport system and you should be given a key that needs to be copied and pasted into the registration screen. At least that is what happened to me. I also believe that you can request another key by logging into your portal on the MS site.

    If that's not what happens, I don't know what the deal it. I haven't experienced what you are going through :(

    I downloaded the product.

    Still no key and I have no idea where the key would go either.

    We should not have to go through a messy registration procedure from MS.

    i'm having the same problem and i need to sort the key out as using the package for my studies

    just received 5 thank you emails and no product keys at all

    can anyone from microsoft shed any light on this issue
