When I did the installation, I got the following message
Package Load Failure
Package 'Visual Studio Explorers and Designers Package' has failed to load properly (GUID = {8D8529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DAD630ECC1B}). Please contact package vendor for assistance. Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future You may use 'vbexpress/resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading.
When I started the application (i.e. Visual Basic Express), I get a total of 5 of these messages with a different package mentioned in each message.
So, what do I do now Should I uninstall and re-install again

Yes, package load failure indicated something went wrong with installation. Are you installing on a clean machine or it has previous version of Visual Basic Express on it Try to uninstall following this guideline http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/uninstall/ and re-install again.
