You can have the express editions side by side with each other and other visual studio version like 6, 2003 .NET and 2005. I have all these installed now at the same time and they continue to work.

Yes you can install all of the Visual Studio products on the same machine. This includes the VS 2003 and older versions. One issue that I have found is that you really need to install the older first so that the file associations are made in the correct order.
As to Issues with express and vs2005... there have been none that i know of reported.
