Because I have a dial-up connection, a friend burned me the setup.exe file for Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition. However, when I double-click to install from the disk (whilst connected to internet) the process of downloading 60 MB starts up
(v-e-r-y slow on my connection - took 15 minutes yesterday to get just 6 MB!
Has my friend made a mistake when burning setup.exe file to CD I thought doing it this way would save my phone costs, but I might as well have downloaded from the VB Express site for myself.
Using Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird, downloads start up again when cut off (which I had to do due to lack of time). Can I get the whole 60 MB this way, in smaller bits Or could some files become corrupted I'm using Windows XP.

Can't install VB Express from a CD

And, if your burning software doesn't understand ISO files (many don't), you'll need something like IsoBuster as well. The Microsoft manual install site explains what you need to do.

As Glenn says: something like C:\Documents and Settings\Cee\Local Settings\Temp. If you've never poked around in there before you might be surprised at how many folders there are. Theoretically most are empty and all can be safely deleted; in practice, while I've never met anyone who had a problem, many won't be empty, and if you're not desperate for disk space, only delete those you are certain you don't need.
If you create the CD correctly, the 'setup.exe' is about 350k and the entire install is about 435Mb, which is about the size of the download too, so it's probably a good thing you gave up.

I have a further question if you would be so kind please - I've partially downloaded some of the 60MB file already (6MB). Assuming my friend can make me a CD I can install VB Express Edition from, should I remove the files partially downloaded before attempting to install from the CD, and how would I go about that
Many thanks.
