There is no real difference other then the means to install it. But with the web installer each time you install it you will need to register the product again... so by this I mean is that at the moment the products are free until Nov 2006, if you use the web installer that you have downloaded after this data you will have to pay for the install and registration. But if you download the CD Image, one you do not have to register it, and two after the Nov 2006 deadline the CD will still allow you to install and use with out paying for a registration.

Note that if you do install from the CD Image you will get the register message for the first three or four times you start the application, this will stop after that time. (Here is a blog post on the registration problems with the CD Install.)

The CD that shipped with your book is the same as the ISO that is available for download, which is the same as the version that you get with the web installer.

Some of the pieces that install by default will be different in each case, but the product functionality is identical.

Do you know whether the CD image is the same as that shipped by microsoft in their product "Build a program now" How do i tell for certain.

When you install from the CD Image you do not have to register the product. Have a look at the registration FAQ Item 7.

    Hi Glenn

Is there a difference between the web installer for VB express(vbsetup.exe) and the downloadable CD image file. I also have the VB express software on CD that comes with the Microsoft product "Build a progam now Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition" Is this identical to the CD image download as it has a registration option.

    Regards
