I am system administrator at a school, and I would like to distribute Visual Basic Express over the network. The easiest way would be by using an MSI file. Is it possible to download an MSI installation file somewhere
You can use ClickOnce Deployment from VB Express to deploy your application. Read up on it in Help. It will allow you to deploy your application from a Network Fileshare, from a website and from removable media such as CD's and DVD's.
Just do a search on ClickOnce in Help and it will bring up a lot of good information.
Trucker, I heard a different question being asked.
He wants to distribute VBE itself, so VBE is the application in question. I hear him asking if there is a VBE MSI. I don't run VBE although I used to. I rather remember it being relatively large and I doubt seriously that it comes in a single MSI.
I agree, that's how I interpreted the question also. I don't
think that VBE comes in an MSI either, but I know that you can download
the .ISO file and burn it to a cd, so that would be quicker at least
than downloading it individually to every PC.

Renee, of course you are correct!! I shouldn't answer questions until I have had more than 3 cups of coffee!!
As for an answer, he can distribute VBE from a central location using the ISO Buster Tool that Microsoft suggests using on the VBE Website at this link:
Got to the middle of the page and there are instructions on how to install from a hard drive using the img file and ISO Buster. He can just set it up to the location on the network he wants to install from and then, all the user's have to do is point to the install folder and run setup and it should install to their local machine.
Yes, I'd agree: the CD Download would be the best way to go. I believe, though, that each installation will need registering individually.
Stephen, for a small group of installs, I agree that the CD Download would be easiest. But, since this is for a school, I think that downloading the img file from the downloads site I listed in my previous post, and using the ISO Buster tool that Microsoft recommends, and extracting the files to a central location and having the user's navigate to the folder on the network where it is located ( or better yet, just send them an email with a link in it to the location of the Setup file) and run Setup.exe and it should install from the network location to the user's system. I am not certain if registration would be a problem or not. I know that the CD version does not require registration like the web install does. It probably wouldn't hurt to email someone at Microsoft about doing something like this to be sure if this sort of setup as far as their EULA is concerned. I would think it would be, but, it doesn't hurt to be sure.

Depending on permissions of course !
Is that better !
