Bad Advice - Don't use Roxio

In the manual install instructions for burning a CD, the instructions on the web http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/default.aspx page say

"To install the image directly from your hard drive you will need to install 3rd party software that is capable of understanding *.img file extensions. Popular software programs like Roxio’s Easy Media Creator include a Disk Image Loader application that enables you to mount disc image files in a virtual drive as if they were physical discs in a physical drive"

Well, I forked out AU $144 to purchase Roxio's easy media creator, and it doesn't understand what a .img file is - it is NOT a supported format.   What a waste of good money when I didn't need to buy it.   Good one Microsoft. :(

NOT HAPPY.

I used Nero to burn my images which doesn't work with .img files either; but .img's are technically the same as .iso's.  So I renamed the file .iso, opened up Nero and burned away; worked great for me.  I've done this many times in the past for other .img files as well.

    Good morning...

    Try ISORecorder PowerToy: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

It allows you to right-click on .iso file (rename .img to .iso) launch a wizard from your explorer, i.e.: shell integration!!!

    And it's free too.

I used another free software, "DAEMON Tools", to access the .img file (exactly the way MS said), and it worked well. Its homepage is http://www.daemon-tools.cc.
