I'm new in charge of the development of my IT department, I have to take over my predecesor work, ufortunately he deleted all codes and left only executables. My question is, how can I convert back from .exe to VB6 code

your help will be realy apreciated.

It is a great problem, but indeed sueing the guy won't give you the source code back. Did he just delete it Because you can get back deleted files!

Thank you guy for the help, I'm gonna try the beta decompiler.

Unfortunately we have no backups because our role is primarly Technical Support and Development is like for making our own tools for that purpose. We monitor and support GE Industrial Turbines around the world, all data that turbines generate are stored into an industrial computer, part of our job is centralize all that data into our database in Atlanta, the guy who left was making a tool in VB to manage the data tranferings among other tools. We have already sued the guy but that won't give us back the code files.

You can't, last I checked there were no VB6 decompilers that worked well.

I have never tried to recover deleted files from a computer, how can I do that It will save me a lot of work and research.

If your predecessor actually deleted all source code, your company should sue him.

There are some decompiler for VB6, but no one really work great. But some produce some nice code, but the structure sucks. But sometimes when you really need the sourcecode are change a small piece it can become handy.

DT is working on a great one called VBRB, there is also a beta version of the P-code decompiler.

What about backups, you should have backups of the systems. With the current prices of Recordable DVDs, CDs and tapes at the moment there really should be no excuse for not haveing backups.
