hi,
i know it might seems silly and even i don't expect answer but anyway since Dec 2005 i starting to learn programming with .net i have learned lots of stuff but every thing i try to learn will be like i open a door for hell, every thing even small controls have tons of properties and methods and lots of stuff you need to learn , i know its natural thing to happend when you start to learn new things, and i know i'll not be able to memorize the .net framework 388000 command(method, property ... etc)
2 months and half now i keep reading like dog and have feeling that the way still too long to walk , but realy i feel i overloading my brain now , it can't bear more than that may be i need a rest because i started to feel bored
so my question is to anyone have walk on this way b4 me, should i keep reading like that about any and every thing or do you guys have field of specialization like some one expert with graphics and other one with data applications and other one with network programing
because i feel its really too much for a person to know all those things . or its stages you start with something till you master it then move to next ... etc
i don't know and i hope any guidance b4 i get bored and gave up
thx

Need Help

Many thx guys and girls
for your compliment and support so basicly practice is much important than just reading , i wish i asked this question b4 wasting hair and suffering in the hot days
Best Regards

hi, Bronco buddy
commenting on your post i didn't say i want to know every thing and i don't even expect that but to do something could be called a decent program i need at least 1 year or not just trying and when you spend this while when you actualy do nothing usefull you will be easily gave up and find something to do i know most of expert ppl in this forum pass this stage so i just asking guidance how you guys and girls got ride of this boring feelings
best regards

Shak,
I've seen you here working so hard and I've wanted to complment you so often.
I think there is too much for one person to know. I'm always glad when I get a question that gives me a chance to learn. You've do a really good job.
Btw, everyone here is not a guy.

shakalama, you are doing great.
There's a ton of stuff in .NET that I don't know exists (I
F1!). The key is knowing how to learn, andto extrapolate. Do not remember (memorize), learn how to learn.
I recall in Electronics, there are really only two equations to remember - all the others can be derived form those two (of course, you need to know how to derive). It's the same thing - don't try to remember everything, you know the basics; just extrapolate to everything else.
For example, we know that a form has a Paint event - we can extrapolate that each control also has a paint event: 'knowing' that one item does something, we now 'derive' that 3000 items do the same thing (with the same number of parameters!). That's like knowing about 3000 things for spending the time to learn one thing! But you truly need to understand that one thing; what exactly it's doing - and that will take time. Don't sweat it - let the time it takes come and go.
Programming has come a long way from the few basic commands of, well, BASIC ('wouldn't it be great if we could do this...'). But the principles of programming have not changed (and with the .NET framework we can apply those principles in any language we choose!).
A master of an art is not someone with a good memory. A master will not blame his tools. A master can comfortably say 'I don't know'.

third :- i'll be so happy when i learn something new as well but really i need an experianced plan because i see a very long way with lots of branches and i'm almost to be lost

To learn... write a moderate sized project in the area you want to learn about.
There are subtleties to sexism and we live in a sexist culture.
Making "Guys" include men and women, rather makes women invisible as men have done historically. As test, to see if it's symetrical, consider saying, "Hi Gals" to everyone here and see how that goes over.
I take it that you are not "Euro". I acknowledge you and your cultural distinctiveness. Highly aware women, appreciate the acknowledgement of our distinctiveness.

G'day Shakalama.
Listen mate, just take a little time out and then see how you feel. You started learning this stuff about the same time as me, and its obvious that you have a better understanding of VB2005 than I have, judging by your responses. I've seen your solutions to some of the problems submitted, and I couldn't have come up with those answers.
Maybe if you do like Renee suggests, pick a project that really intrests you and concentrate on that.
I know what you mean about it being a bit overwhelming. I've found it so. I tried to rush through some of the learning material in order to get to the bits that I felt were more worthwhile. Doesn't work. I ended up starting again from scratch, and going over each chapter and example until I could write something similar and understand what I'm doing.
But again, judging from some of your responses you have a real gift for this programming lark so don't give up. Take a few days off, and think of something that you really want to do.
As you have already stated, you can not learn everything, so just try to ensure that what you learn, you learn well.
All the best mate.

Hi Bushranger,
Yes, I used to write an encryption/decyption program to learn the rudiments of a language.
I'd be ashamed to show my first DOT NET project... but I learned a lot. It was a taskmanager.
Then there as the second. It wasn't beautiful....but I use it 100s of times a day. It re-implements the functionality of the old Office toolbar with the ToolstripToolbar and does 32 bit color. It, and the new controls are georgeous. I did the Taskmanager in VBE, and downloaded Beta-II and started the toolbar. In the middle of it, I received RC1.
That as a couple of month project.
The a Webservice/database/Aspx project and Finally I'm doing database project.
I'm in the middle of it now and I'd do it differently than I did.
I think the point we're trying to make Shak, is that DOING is such a golen way to learn and I've seen you working hard here.
I think you deserve some acknowledgement for all your great work!!!!
