.NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 won't install

The Visual Studio Express install fails when installing Framework 2.0
Does Framework 1.1 need to be uninstalled   No other beta or Visual Studio software has been loaded on the PC before...any ideas
Anyone had something similar happen

    Can you tell us a little about your config XP (home, pro, 64 bit ) or Win2k

    I've seen some problems on a bare Win2k, I haven't finished putting together my notes on aspdeveloper.net but will rush that if you are having a problem.

    Thanks for your reply. I used "iisreset /stop" from the command line and the installation progressed satisfactorily.

    For those who like working with a minimalist development environment there is a version of Jeff Key's excellent Snippet Compiler available for C# 2005.

    I had a problem installing VS.NET 2005 Beta 2 last night.

    It kept failing installing the .NET Framework 2.0.

    So, I downloaded that seperatly from MS and tried installing it on its own. Then I could see that it was failing when stopping IIS during the install.

    I needed to:
    - Go to Windows Services
    - Select Properties on World Wide Web Publishing
    - Set Start Up Type = Disabled
    - repeat the above for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
    - repeat the above for IIS
    - reboot
    - install the Framework (now it installed)
    - go back to Windows Services and undo the changes I made above
    - reboot
    - popped back in the VS.NET 2005 Beta 2 CD and no more problems.

    Sorry Highlander, I dont know. You might try installing the Framework seperatly as I did. It then became quite obvious that is was getting stuck while trying to disable IIS. From there, I just started disabling related services.

    I wonder though, are you using XP Pro or XP Home I think you will need Pro, and you certainly would need IIS installed - are you sure IIS is not in your list of services

    I should add that no, 1.1 does not need to be removed. However any 2.0 beta 1s need to be removed, including sql 2005 which I have seen cause a few glitches if not fully removed.

    Thanks, my OS is winxp pro SP2...no other betas have been installed..thanks..but still fails when trying to just get the .net framework 2.0 installed...

    To determine why .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 won't install, we'll need to see your log files.

    Can you include them   You can find them in %temp%.  They should look something like: dd_netfx20....txt

    Also, are you installing .NET FX on its own   Or is this part of a VS install   If it is part of a VS install, please also include the dd_install80.txt log file (also found in %temp%).

    I've the same problem on windows xp service pack 2 and i don't have the services listed in the previous message. Perhaps should I stop other services

    Have you a more specific question

    I was installing the 2.0 Framework from a CD, hung.

    I downloaded the Framework from MS, tried installing, hung.

    However, this time I was able to see that it was trying to disable IIS and thats where it was getting hung.

    So, I went to Windows Services and manually disabled IIS. A couple of times the attempt to manually disable IIS told me that I needed to stop other services first (see above post), so I went and disabled them one by one until IIS let me disable it.

    Then I installed the Framework without any problems.

    Then I turned the services back on.

    I am running XP Pro SP2. Already have VS 2003 and SQL 2000. Twice I have tried to install VS 2005 Express C#. Downloads fine then the .Net Framework 2.0 beta 2 tries to get installed: progress bar on my 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 took 15 minutes to fill then just hung and hung and hung!

    Good practice using System Restore though!

    Would you mind repeating your comments re disabling certain services for my type of install - I believe you were talking about a CD installation

    Haven't seen any comments from the Redmond Mob on this yet!
